I thoroughly enjoyed eating at Prego. All of that lovely Italian food was worth the wait and worth the trip to the City of Dreams. Salad and Appetizers1) Insalata alla Cesare ₱450Romaine greens in Italian Caesar dressing topped with pancetta and croutonsThe fresh, crisp greens are countered by the salty pancetta and the long shavings of Parmesan cheese. The addition of crunchy croutons help round out the salad, thanks to the slight hint of butter and garlic in the bread. 2) Gran Misto di Antipasti Mare ₱890Assorted seafood appetizersShrimp, salmon, and sliced octopus all on a plate. Love the fish, but those not used to octopus might find it better to squeeze some lemon juice over it to give it an extra kick. 3) Gran Misto di Antipasti Terra ₱990Assorted Italian meat and vegetable appetizersSausages, cured and smoked hams, and all manner of Italian charcuterie are ripe for the taking. The strong flavors of the neat are perfect when paired with the complimentary bread and butter or salsa. Pasta1) Spaghetti alla Carbonara ₱530Spaghetti with egg, Parmesan cheese, and pancettaThe classic creamy pasta dish that is balanced with the salty Parmesan and savory pancetta. Not too mild and not too overwhelming, either. 2) Tubetti all’ Amatriciana in Cestino di Parmigiano ₱550Short tube pasta with Guancile bacon in tomato sauce and served in a Parmesan cheese basketThis is a brand new kind of pasta for me. The rich, sour tomato sauce complements the bacon, and the basket made of fried Parmesan cheese shavings is an excellent addition. Move over, bread bowls! As a side note, I suggest waiting a bit so that the cheese basket absorbs the sauce and softens enough that it is easier to pick apart. Mains1) Filleto di Manzo con Fegato d’Oca in Salsa Tartufata con Spinaci e Asparagi ₱990 per every 100 gramsCertified Angus beef tenderloin with pan-fried foie gras in truffle sauce served with asparagus and fried spinachThis dish is especially notable in one thing: it made me actually like the taste of foie gras. That alone is astounding. It also helps that the juicy beef tenderloin is bursting with flavor from the sauce. The crunchy asparagus spears are a great addition to provide contrast in texture. 2) Bistecca Disossata alla Griglia con Spinaci ₱520 per 100 gramsAngus beef rib-eye with sautéed spinach and vegetablesI expected nothing less than juicy rib-eye and crunchy, earthy vegetables. I got what I wanted, and I am glad that it was worth the wait. Pizza1) Pizza Prego ₱590Pizza with spiced salami, anchovies, bleu cheese, tomato sauce, and mozzarella cheeseI love my bleu cheese, so having its familiar aroma blend with the savory salami, and mild mozzarella is amazing. 2) Pizza Margherita ₱520Basil, oregano, tomato sauce, and mozzarella cheeseThe classic pizza flavor. Despite all the different accounts of how it was first made, Prego made an impressive one that is both simple yet still packed with flavor. 3) Pizza con Burrata e Pachino ₱620Pizza with tomato sauce, cherry tomatoes, and burrata cheeseThe addition of fresh cherry tomatoes adds a delightful sour pop with each bite before blending with the mild burrata bits. Desserts1) Panna Cotta al Miele Tartufo ₱420Italian cooked cream custard with truffled honey syrup and sweet balsamic vinegarThis panna cotta has a more gelatinous texture compared to usual cream. However, the familiar creamy flavor is present and the dessert is sweet overall. Surprisingly, the balsamic vinegar was not that obvious when I tasted the panna cotta. 2) Tiramisu ₱420Mascarpone cheesecakeAnother classic Italian dessert. The coffee and chocolate flavor contrasts with the sweet cream as well as the mascarpone cheese. The ladyfingers are also soft and creamy thanks to the milk and cream in the cheesecake. Overall, this is one of the best versions of tiramisu that I have tasted.

It's amazing how restaurants think of new, clever ways to lure customers in. It's all so common now. We see so many promos these days. There are unlimited offers, buy-one-take-ones, discounts and coupons, but one restaurant tops all of these off by simply offering the best service. . Prego is an Italian restaurant inside City of Dreams. Its name actually means "you're welcome" in Italian, which is probably the phrase they use so often during restaurant hours. We had some of their finest dishes from appetizers to desserts, and I can't help but fall in love with a bunch of it.

"What can I say except ‘you’re welcome’! For the antipasti, pizza and pasta…Hey it’s okay, there’s steak, and ‘you’re welcome’!It’s just an extra-ordinary tiramisu.”I know it’s a bad parody of Disney’s “You’re Welcome” in Moana, but Prego at the City of Dreams, which also means “you’re welcome” in Italian, makes these ridiculously good Italian dishes it was the first ditty that came to my head. We really ought to say ’thank you!’ to Prego for bringing consistently good food and service to its patrons.I came late for the antipasti (which I hear are really good) but the other dishes stand out on their own, as well as Prego’s service, which is done with a smile and a surprising efficiency. The Insalata alla Cesare (Caesar’s salad, P450) may look plain but the combination of fresh, crisp greens, salty pancetta, crispy croutons and shavings of real parmesan cheese make this a great starter to a great meal ahead. We tried two pastas, the Spaghetti alla Carbonara (P530) and Tubetti all Amatriciana in Cestino di Parmigiano (P550). The carbonara is made with freshly-made pasta, egg, parmesan cheese and pancetta is tasty, creamy but not overwhelming. The pancetta provides a nice salty punch across the cream. This is how carbonara should be, not with cream, flour and processed cheese and the difference in flavor is miles away. The tube pasta in tomato sauce and bacon (and served on a basket made of cheese!) is a nice, simple pasta with the fresh tomato sauce you know has been painstakingly slow-cooking for hours to get that thick, rich flavor, and real parmesan cheese. And of course bacon makes everything better. No Italian restaurant would be complete without pizza - and it should be the thin crust, bursting with flavor kind. We tried the Pizza Prego (P590), Pizza Margherita (P520) and Pizza con Burrata e Pachino (P620). Pizza Prego, with spiced salami, anchovies, bleu cheese, tomato sauce, and mozzarella cheese is wonderfully meaty and shows off why we love our classic pizza mix of tomato sauce, cheese and meat. The Pizza Margherita, with basil, oregano, tomato sauce, and mozzarella cheese is the most classic of pizza flavors and Prego’s version is choc-full of fresh ingredients and manages to be one of the best I’ve ever eaten. And while I prefer my burrata as a salad, the pizza is still a great version and the fresh cherry tomatoes lend that necessary tart and fresh taste that makes this pizza come more alive. And since I will travel anywhere for steak, I am glad I did go all the way from the northern part of the metro for Prego’s Filleto di Manzo con Fegato d’Oca in Salsa Tartufata con Spinaci e Asparagi (P990/100 g) and Bistecca Disossata alla Griglia con Spinaci (P520/100 g). The certified Angus beef tenderloin with pan-fried foie gras in truffle sauce (Filleto di Manzo con Fegato d’Oca) was simply divine, with the foie gras adding more fat, flavor and umami to the steak. The creamed spinach and sweet asparagus spears are the perfect side dishes to complement this meat. In the meantime, the Angus beef rib eye was medium done quite nicely and was juicy and flavorful in all the right ways. And no decent Italian restaurant succeeds without great dessert and Prego served us with two - Panna Cotta al Miele Tartufo (P420) and Tiramisu (P420). The Panna Cotta, which is this cooked cream custard with truffled honey syrup and sweet balsamic vinegar, is happily jiggly and creamy. The balsamic sauce is surprisingly a good compliment to the custard. The tiramisu, made from mascarpone cheese (not cream or cream cheese) is decadently rich, though it being frozen threw me a bit off. As it melted, it's all good.Overall a very satisfying meal and one that made me smile all throughout the day.
