Hubby encouraged me to try out the Fried Carrot Cake with Prawns from Ah Tee to go with our Hainanese Chicken Rice from the next stall in Makansutra Hawkers. It was an exotic mixture of flavors and textures - starchy cakes, slightly sweet, the salty shrimp paste with a spicy kick - all made for a great sampling of Singaporean cuisine.

I ordered their Seafood Omelette and it wasn't worth it. It was relatively bland, tasted like msg, and had little seafood. There are better places to spend your money than this place.

I love radish cake, and also carrot cake so I tried this stall to find out if the taste is really authentic ,I was happy that it was and I didn't expect it to be that good and with the size of the serving and with that price.I ordered plain fried carrot cake taste yummy.

So Makansutra is the famous hawker food hub at Glutton's bay in Singapore. Imagine one of the food parks in the Philippines and that's the atmosphere of this place. Very laid back and casual, this outdoor foodcourt rose to fame partly because of conceptualizing and hosting the first World Street Food congress. They also have pretty good brands such as Wee Nam Kee, which started as one of the stalls in Makansutra. Thus, it's no surprise when Filipinos flocked to this place when it first opened. It's a mixture of being jilted at the World Street Food congress a few months back, good marketing, curiosity and brand noteriety that initally attracted the large crowd. Personally, I was only able to try one stall before--the HK Street Old Chun Kee, which serves chili crabs, cereal prawns and salted egg chicken. The servings are too big for just two people, so I plan to come back once we are with a bigger group. We ended up trying a few stalls including Ah Tee for their oyster omlette. To cut it short, it was bland, oily and not worth the price tag. Not a store that I would recommend either.

I'd tried fried carrot cake in Kuala Lumpur almost 10 years ago so I was excited to see it at Makansutra in Megamall. It should be noted that this is not the sweet carrot cake of the Philippines. Nor is there any carrot in the carrot cake- it's made with radish cubes. The fried carrot cake with ikan bilis (dilis) at Ah Tee is authentic tasting. It's made of fried radish cubes on egg with a generous helping of crispy dilis on top and served with spicy sambal sauce. Tasted ok for a snack.
