Red Kimono lost a lot of its luster when it came back to Fort. It was at the Fort strip for a number of years and had a rather unique buffet which was in fact an ala carte buffet. This was what made Red Kimono what it was... If you availed of the buffet, they would give you a single page menu with what you could order on the front or back.Albeit their food not being the best of the best, the cost plus the sheer amount made it very, very well worth it. Aside from finishing everything on the table, as is the rule of most buffets here save for hotels, they had a peculiar one cup of rice for every person or a kamameshi rice for every two people. In my opinion the latter was a treat in itself. My family and I love kamameshi rice and it's usually one per person, sometimes up to two per person depends on how starved we are. Admittedly it wasn't the best kamameshi fried rice, but it's a very good second. The agedashi tofu here is quite nice too, very promising but a little bland at times. The yakitori could use a little more sauce just like its counter part the teppanyaki pork/beef/chicken, which could use a little more as well. The tempura was not the best but I would never say no to it. My friends love the kani sticks and the crunchy roll sushi as well, so I assume that's something a lot of people would enjoy.All-in-all it was a good place, I would rate it a 4 if it still had the buffet but now a 3 sounds about right. It's still ok, but now that you can't gorge yourself into a coma, it loses some of its shimmer. I do vehemently hope that they return the buffet soon so this can be a place I will return to soon.

Terrible slow service took 20 mins to get green tea halo halo which was as mediocre as can get.

We decided to try Red Kimono for a weekend lunch recently and while it didn't disappoint, it didn't impress either. We chose the place simply because we have a baby, and a stroller and we wanted a place that wasn't so crowded. That in itself was already a sign. We thought it was our good luck to have found a quiet place to lunch on a Sunday when everywhere else was packed on High Street. Well, it really is true what they say about restaurants; good and delicious food can be found where its packed and people are waiting to get a table. We ordered mostly makis and chicken yakitori. We decided to try their Spicy Salmon Crunch, Crispy Prawn and Dilis Maki and the Red Dragon. They were okay. And thats all it was: okay. The makis tasted okay. The Spicy Salmon Crunch has cooked salmon flakes, not minced sashimi salmon which we didn't expect. It was a bit sour and lacked some seasoning. The Crispy Prawn & Dilis Maki was too sweet for my liking and while the dilis was generously topped on the maki, the prawn was practically non existent. Lastly, the Red Dragon has some slices of tuna on it and was probably the best of the bunch. All of the makis had too much rice and too little fillings. It felt like the chef skimped on the ingredients for the price of the items on the menu. Service was fast though I am not sure if its because there were only 2 other tables while we were there. The staff were polite and helpful especially when they saw us trying to wheel in the stroller. Overall I think Red Kimono can be much better. I remember some years ago eating at another one of their outlets and I remember the quality of the food to be much better. Hopefully they can improve soon in order to stay afloat in BGC's competitive market.

Red Kimono remains to be one of the elite Japanese Restaurants here in Manila mainly because their approach to serving Japanese food involves an intricate fusion of what is modern and what is traditionally Japanese. Aside from that, their menu features a spectrum of choices to cater not just the omnivores and meatlovers but also the vegetarians who are under a strict diet. Our Japanese Cuisine Experience in Red Kimono started with thee two drinks: Watermelon shake and Lemonade. Next we had Tuna Sashimi Salad, Japanese Seafood Chowder and Okonomiyaki, also known as the Japanese Pizza. The Salad was made of Fresh tuna– perfectly sliced into cubes, lettuce, Japanese mayo and spices. The chowder, one of Red Kimono‘s best offers, is specifically made for the seafood lover in us. Okonomiyaki, is a pizza not made of dough but of cabbage latched on on top one another with corn, bacon bits, shrimps, Japanese Mayo and Tonkatsu sauce. It is a surprisingly playful spoonful as the textures and tastes meld in your mouth. Then we had lots of sushi namely, Crispy Prawn Dilis Maki, Hot Shot Roll, and Spicy Salmon Crunch. Red Kimono is actually one of the pioneers of these maki masterpieces. From here on, I was already super FULL but we still had to eat mains! HAHA For the mains, we had kamameshi rice, chicken & salmon teriyaki, karaage and crispy pork wasabi, which were all, DELICIOUS. Overall, our Red Kimono food experience is definitely something to remember! To be stuffed with that kind of Japanese food outdoes all the other Japanese restaurants I’ve been to. The service was great, staff were really friendly, interiors were all put together nicely and of course, the Japanese food served is excellently satisfying. TIP: For dessert try the Red Kimochi, Red Kimono‘s Japanese cake stuffed with Sesame and Vanilla Ice Cream. Not too sweet but highly recommended for those who want a different twist to the Mochi ice cream.

Because I'm not feeling well yesterday i was craving for something with soup so we went to Red Kimono and ordered sukiyaki ramen and chicken teriyaki ramen. The experience wasn't great. The sukiyaki is far too sweet for my taste and the chicken teriyaki is too bland. I thought it was because my taste buds are off due to colds but my companion also didn't enjoy it. For the price its not very good at all. I didn't get a taste of miso which I'm normally looking for a Japanese ramen and the sukiyaki is full of shiitake mushrooms that overpowered it. We tasted three spoons of the broth and we left that sukiyaki alone. Im looking for an authentic Japanese taste buy didn't get it at all. Even the green tea ice cream tasted like a green tea thats frozen, it didn't offer a mouth watering creaminess. I wont go back here.
