It's pricey, and the food a bit of a disappointment but the place is superb and the service good. Intimate and quiet - during lunch anyway. And discreet! I'll give this another shot again soon then maybe give a higher rating.

If you want total privacy in an elegant restaurant with good food, of course, then 2nd's is for you. This restaurant is tucked inside an unassuming building but once inside, you would be surprised by the beauty of its interiors which mostly looks like dark wood. We got a private room for Christmas lunch with another set of friends. The long table, the sliding door, the lamp shade and paintings all add to the elegance of the place. We ordered paella negra, mashed potato and pork chops. The paella negra was noteworthy. It tasted really rich and flavorful but without a hint of fishiness. It's a must-try. The pork chops, meanwhile, was a thick slab of flavorful meat that is sure to satisfy any carnivore palate. It was likewise bursting with flavor and went well with the garlic rice.Surprisingly, price was much affordable at around P500 per head. This place should be in anyone's must-try list.

First time to try 2nd's and it was not a memorable dining experience. It was just the average, nothing special with the food considering that they are costly. Maybe we ordered the wrong dishes or we expected too much? Here's what we ordered, we had their Grilled Cheese Sandwich, the only dish we liked, although for me who loves grilled cheese sandwich, this wasn't spectacular. Haha! We also had the Spinach and Black Truffle Dip, this was just okay, I did not taste any hint of truffle. Then we had their Truffle Three Cheese Mac (I am a cheese person and these days, I am also enjoying truffle flavoured dishes so this for me was the most anticipated dish during our visit but it turned out to be a disappointment). Same verdict goes to their "Orange Julius", combination of milk and orange juice, tastes as weird as it sounds. It's like the orange filling in a popular cracker sandwich. Hehe

As many reviewers have said, this is a superb well-appointed place with excellent service. We did not give 2nds an opportunity to impress us more with their food or drinks cos we were there only as a one hour stopgap on 11 pm on Friday while waiting for our co-party goers to arrive. We had the mixed berry fizz with vodka pitcher. Good berry juice and we frankly didn't get the feeling that there was vodka in it.We had the Chicken Adobo Croquetas with aioli sauce. The Croquetas tasted good with the aioli. We didn't get any flavor of chicken adobo though. Enjoyable hour! Hope to another occasion to try out 2nds

Their bacon chicharon is heavenly! Food is pricey but the ambiance is premium. Try their lunch packages as well, you'll get a complete meal set for 500php.

If I were to recommended what you should have at 2nds when trying out; here's two: Bacon Chicharon  their unique take on this classic breakfast dish turned into an appetizer. This dish put them on the map and should be one of the 1st dishes you should try at 2nds. It comes in two dips; muscovado mustard dip (my preference) and for chicharon purists, they also serve spiced vinegar.Lamb Shank Caldereta GratinFrom the moment I laid my eyes on this, I was already very excited to try it! Shank would be the cut usually used for our very own bulalo and I was surprised to see it used on caldereta. I can already imagine a fall off the bone experience with the delicious tomato sauce topped with cheese. My only complaint was it didn’t come with a huge plate of rice; leaving us to share a cup of rice (kidding aside – each one of us were given a cup of rice but to those who will order this, definitely ask for more rice!).2nd’s serves “comfort food” but let’s define “comfort food”. These are food that you would want to eat when you are feeling down and need something to perk you up. If I look at what we had at 2nds, my personal pick would be the lamb caldereta and a few cups of rice. It will surely drown my sadness away as I unleash my primal desire on the shank!

Ate here twice and tried a few dishes. Found them to be overpriced and on the small side. Food was average and the service was ok. Nothing impressive.

What I regret the most about my visit at 2nd's last Saturday is that I wasn't able to try the best dish of the restaurant which is the baked Mac, setting that aside though I had a good time dining there. We ordered steak, risotto with mushroom, bacon chicharon and barbecued pork belly. The steak was spot on and cooked to perfection, I was lucky that my slice had a generous portion of fat that brought the overall flavor for the steak. The risotto and mushroom is unlike a dish I've ever tasted before. It's light and very tasty, your taste buds won't get overwhelmed with it's even if you have a lot of it.The bacon chicharon though wasn't what I expected, what I expected was very thing slices of pork that had the consistency of chicharon with a salty kick to it, what I tasted was different from what I imagined, it was like thinly sliced deep fried pork, it was ok but not what I expected it to be. The barbecued pork belly was tender, but somehow the sauce and the marinade didn't blend and seep in the pork. The sauce and pork seemed they were two different elements of the dish the sweetness of the sauce was not complimented by the saltiness of the pork. The ambiance was that of a high end American bar which have it a dim and very homely/cozy feel around it.

They have limited menu but everything they offered is well-executed.  Although a bit pricey, the quality of the food and the place makes dining here worthwhile.. I was here for a late dinner with a good, old friend and the ambiance is very much conducive for long, private conversations..  We ordered Gambas & Egg (gambas & chorizo in garlic rice w/ poached egg) & Seabass Aglio Olio.. I prefer the pasta over the rice dish.. For drinks, we had watermelon shake & iced tea..I will definitely be back here to try some of the other items in the menu.. :)
