Shuin has been one of my comfort food resto for the past few years along Maria Clara, near where I reside. My usual meal would be a porkchop then I would normally get a tofu and a veggie sidings to pair with it.This time around, around early Jan. 2017, we were around San Juan area and was looking for a place to eat. Our first choice was full and have a long queue, being impatient and hungry. We walked towards Shuin to have their porkchops.Unfortunately, that time, it was about to closed, around 9pm, the only thing that was available was the smoked chicken, which was no problem. The main problem I notice is the place, it was a dim. I dunno if there was a busted bulb, or they would just keep it that way. From the outside, it semse closed. Then the service wasn't their usual. It was abit disappointing at this branch. The food was as good as their Maria Clara (branch), but service and ambience isn't the same.#TheFoodCrawlers #SplatMNL #OngsFoodprints

Shuin is located right beside the first and original Serenitea store in Little Baguio. The place is pretty small. It’s usually packed full of people too. Each table is given a box of utensils, containing the exact number of spoons and forks for each person seated. Hubby ordered Dumpling Noodle (P170). One serving of any of their noodle variants is big and can be shared, especially if you’re ordering other dishes. While the dumplings were really really delicious and tasty, the soup was bland and almost tasteless. You can add more noodles for an additional fee but the soup cannot be refilled.I ordered Shuin’s bestseller, Pork Chop Rice (P170). You get a whole pork chop that’s breaded, peppered, and fried. But wait, there’s more… you can pick out two free side dishes too aside from the cup of steamed rice that comes with your order. There are around 5-6 available side dishes at any given day. The pork chop is really flavorful and quite lean, cooked Taiwan style with lots of ground black pepper. You will have to go over to the counter to pick out your side dishes. In case you want more than two, all you need to do is pay a small additional fee per side dish. I picked Kikiam, Kiam Chai (Pickled Mustard Greens), and Chai Poh (Salted Radish Omelet). Everything was delicious! The Chai Poh’s unique taste and texture combination was especially memorable for me because it was milky, egg-y, and salty at the same time. Since I had three side dishes my steamed rice had to be served in a separate bowl. Both my kids followed suit and each ordered Pork Chop Rice. My daughter had Chai Poh x 2 as her side dishes while my son had Chai Poh and peppered corn on the cob.Hubby also ordered another bestseller, Smoked Chicken Rice (P170). He said it was good overall but the chicken was a bit on the dry side. He got to pick two side dishes too (Chai Poh again lol and some tofu). For dessert, hubby and I shared a Matcha Pudding. It’s green tea custard topped with a light brown syrup. At first it tasted weird, but it kind of grows on you after a little while. Next time I think I will try their Panna Cotta.I really enjoyed our dinner at Shuin The Smoked Chicken Food House. For P170, you can already have a full set meal consisting of rice, 2 side dishes, and a main viand (pork chop in my case). Considering that it’s all natural home-cooked food from scratch (not processed fast food fare), I can say that Shuin offers excellent value for money. It’s well worth a visit if you’re in the San Juan area.P.S. Shuin is moving across the street to a bigger place.

Say hello to one of the best Pork Chops in town! Their pork chop is seasoned really well and is surely not dry at all. I love the crisp outer coating together with the tender meat, super yum! I really recommend this dish above all.We also got to sample their Gyoza and Dry Noodles (Beef), these two were just so-so, nothing as compared to their Pork chop! The service was speedy and they also have free wifi! Hooray!

i like Shuuin because this is our go-to place when we want a full late lunch. the chicken platter is only 170 and it comes with a choice of 2 sidings, gravy and rice. The chicken meals always come a little lukewarm but i put the seasoned salt on it and a little black vinegar. I also like their wintermelon iced tea here

I ate here once and I tried one of their set meals. The food here is very affordable and the chicken was really something. It is cooked differently or with a different recipe than with other roast chickens in the market.while we were eating there, i noticed a lot of people coming in and ordering takeout as well! good business!I wanted to try the smoked duck also but they ran out of stock :(

my friend and I enjoy the food in Shuin. we ordered beef dumpling noodle, 1 order is already good to share. sliced sausage, smocked duck, and porkchop rice. the duck is not HK style, not roast, so its not oily, and more healthy, very affordable price, we take out 1/4 duck for cold cuts, we will back again for sure. seems there is deliver, we might call for deliver when its available.

Super impromptu dinner here because we were supposed to dine at a nearby place but it's closed. Anyway, I didn't know what to expect when we came in. It's a bit confusing and disorganized because you'll be given a menu but if you ordered those meals with side dishes, you have to go to the counter to check which of the sides are available. Why don't just place it on the menu and tell the customers which ones are available or not?Since I didn't want the meals with sides, I went with the dumpling noodle soup. For a price of 170, the serving is quite generous. The menu (yes, the menu; not the server) also encourages you to sip the soup slowly and get a noodle refill for just 25 pesos. The noodles were thick and hard while the soup was a bit bland. The dumplings were okay. It reminded me of how gyoza tastes, it's just that it's steamed. Aside from dumplings, it also had egg and something like squidballs. The egg was probably my favorite part of the meal. For the other one, not sure what it is but it had "meat" in the middle, similar to how siopaos look like.

They are known for their smoked chicken, but I prefer their porkchop instead. Worth every penny since it comes in big serving. Make to as for their peppered salt.

Fair value for their meal items, but that's just about it, try and make things interesting with their add ons or ala carte and it becomes real bad value really quickly.Add 25php for a table spoon worth of side dish, or half an egg. Even the 140 whole order for VEGETABLES comes on a tiny plate.Plus someone should file a DTI complaint or something. They take out 10% off or 50 pesos of your bill, whichever is lower, if you have a senior citizen or pwd card. And when asked for a receipt they comply albeit begrudgingly.Too bad, the porkchop and the duck were good, but not good enough to offset the general unpleasantness of the experience of dining here.
