I continue to discover new places to eat and enjoy them at the same time. Thanks to another website meet up, it wasn't just about dining, it was also meeting the creators- the chef and the owners. This time it was in San Juan located just after you cross Wilson and P. Guevarra streets. I like the name Pig Tales. Initially I thought it was tails. One of the owners Austin relates that each dish has a story. I am hoping though that this place will have its happy ever after. That customers pass on the tales to their family and friends. As the name connotes it is also all about pork. So everything served was comfort food- deep fried, sauteed, fried pork. Perhaps the most sinful one was their Mozzarella Ball. It was oozing cheese wrapped in a giant ball of bacon goodness. It was fried well and best with its marinara sauce. They also have their localized sausage. It did have a strong presence of local meat. Almost like longganisa but better. It was in a bed of seasoned potato slices. We were served two types of pasta. One felt short, the Classic Carbonara. It was bland. I got back to my food senses after trying the next one- Seafood Marinara. The tomato based sauce was made perfect with its well cooked noodles and various sea creatures. Now you gotta try their best selling Pork Slab! It was the last one I feasted on before I left. The taste lingered for a long time. The pork was tender, melt in your mouth effect. Its sauce had a strong sweet, salty, spicy vibe. It could be one of the best pork dishes I've had in awhile.

Place is nicely designed with a modern industrial feel. Being named pig tales, we wanted to order a pork main dish but both pork main dish options were not available. We settled for pasta and a burger but then after a bit they said the pig slab was available. I’m not sure what is happening but there is clearly some confusion. The burger in the menu says ⅓ pound patty but the waiter said it is actually quarter pounder because they are still reinventing. Wierd. We at least got two free iced tea. They have a promo if you check in at website you get free iced tea. Both me and my wife checked in.The pig slab was good, tender and tasty! The chicken wings was crispy and the spicy bbq sauce is good also. The bacon cheeseburger was also good and not too oily with the bacon not crispy fried but pan seared. Cheeseburger could use a bit more taste or salt. Fries with the burger was also good; it was seasoned with pepper. I’m glad food taste is okay because service wasn’t the best. Good food usually always makes up for some service misteps. I was expecting the worst after the initial problems, i actually almost walked out but i’m glad the dinner worked out.

Pig Tales is a new kid on the block with another porky concept. The same location that housed Quirky Bacon last year. This gastro-pub has a very industrialized-woody interiors that serves everything (almost) with bacon, even desserts.Mozzarella Balls. It's a giant cube of mozzarella that is baked then topped with pomodoro sauce. At first bite, you can taste the bacon, then the cheese follows with the after taste of the pomodoro sauce. It literally tasted like pizza without the bread.Sausage Platter. It is basically a bar chow, a combination of homemade sausages (hungarian & cheesedog) & mojos. The hungarian sausage has the nice, spiced, peppery finish, where as the cheesedog tasted like GOOD cheese hotdogs.Carbonara. The carbonara was a bit bland and lacks the richness of the egg. I can still taste the cream in it. It tasted more like bacon & cream than a carbonara.Seafood Marinara with a BANG. It was a perfect marinara that has the light, vegetal tomatoey goodness with an after taste of herby thyme. It was a highlight for me but they should just clean their mussels, because the beard was still intact in it.Pig Slab. BBQ glazed pork ribs served with corn cob and mashed potatoes. The ribs was soft, tender with the sweetness of the pork the finished off with their tasty bbq sauce. The corn looks charred but it doesn't have the charry taste because it was just torched, not grilled. They should've opted to just boil the corn instead of charring it using a torch that doesn't emit the 'charred, roasted' flavor from its look.Bangoes. Bacon cups with milk chocolate ganache topped with mangoes. The idea was superb, but the execution was abit fail for me. It didn't taste like a dessert, but it tasted more bacon than chocolate. A drizzle of honey or add vanilla ice cream just might do the trick.Pig Tales is one porky concept for all the bacon lovers out there. It elevated bacon as part of every dish and not just a breakfast accompaniment.#TheFoodCrawlers
