3.5Place: cozy seats, open areaFood: scallops were good, may seem burned at first glance at some edges but when eaten, was just right. Sisig was average for me, a but dry for my taste.. Danggit rice was good, not too salty..

Bad food, a lot of unavailable dishes, waiter keeps on forgetting the orders long waiting time for the food. Evrything is bad. Not recommended.

We ordered Baked Scallops for our appetizer. I think this is one of Kuya J’s newest dishes. It was really good!We got the usual bestsellers - Sizzling Sisig with Egg and Bulalo. For a change, we also got one Grilled Tuna Belly. The sisig was tasty but I like my sisig crunchy so overall, this was so-so. The bulalo was yum, too. Putting fish sauce will make it much better as it enhances the flavor of the broth/soup. The tuna belly was something else because it didn’t taste good. It was malansa (ano ba ‘to in English?) and it had a very weird aftertaste.

The restaurant was understaffed. when i went a few minutes before 6pm, there was only one waiter going around and he was overworked. Even the cashier was not at her station. Ube Halo halo- i guess i set my expectation too high as people were saying its the best halo halo in metro manila. it was good but there was nothing special about it to make it manila’s best halo halo. its still worth a try though. its cheap and can be shared by 2-3 people. Sotanghon Guisado- this was really good. id order this again. Chicken Halang Halang- really creamy and full of flavor.

The best branch of Kuya J I've been. Good Ampalaya Salad, Great Tortang Talong and Yummy Ube Halo-halo. The Grilled Tuna was a bit oily and overcooked but the Cucumber Shake just made my day! The ambiance relaxed and eating mood and the staff was accomodating enough not to have any problems. 👍🏻

Since Filipinos would have naturally high expectations for Filipino food, I decided to try entrees I am not used to. First of all, I had calamansi juice for my drink. I loved how they used fresh ingredients and minimal sugar on the drink. It tasted sour just the way I liked it - all natural. (Sweet tooths might not like this too much though but I think you can request it to be sweetened to your liking.)We had their binagoongan rice, enselada, and chicken halang halang. These are meals new to my palette and I was surprisingly impressed. It was a mistake to have too flavorful rice (it was a meal on its own which is good!) because it would overpower the taste of the other meals. Haha. Nevertheless, it was really good and filling. One order could feed 3-4 persons. The enseladang talong (?) also had a different kind of marinade on it. I can't explain much on how it tasted so you have to try it too but I can say it was good! The chicken halang halang was new to their menu. From what I remember, it was a mix of tinola and gata. I am a big fan of gata and wanted to try this. It tasted a little spicy and the mix with gata made it taste like a variety of bicol express. It was good except for the chicken that I think was slightly overcooked because the meat was a little too tough for my liking. The service and ambience at the promenade branch was nice.Over all, I'd rate the experience a 4 out of 5. :)

Everything we ordered was good namely Sisig, scallops, roast chicken, pork BBQ, classic halo halo, ube, halo halo, saba halo halo. Price is good too, very reasonable. And No service charge. So happy we tried this restaurant. The scallops are too good you will want more. For budget hunters, they have solo meals... Rice, ulam and iced tea.. all for 150 pesos only. You cannot go wrong with this restaurant. Will definitely come back.

I know Kuya J has been in Manila for quite sometime, but only got to try this one out over the weekend and it was great! Quirky interiors and food was flavorful and delicious which is highly recommended and ideal for group sharing. What we ordered:Medley of Palabok + Halo-HaloSquid rings calamaresChorizo dinamitasNot a fan of their halo-halo since I find it very rich and too sweet. But perfectly fried calamares and dinamitas! Sulit since we even ordered some shakes too. For merienda, this is is a big win for me and my folks. The cherry on top of this experience is that we only spent roughly P800. I would be back and try their grilled and sizzling dishes. Heard their bulalo is a must try.
