Hot Box is across the street from Tori Tori. The name caught our attention so we decided to check 'em out.I thought they specialize in Asian Cuisine but i was wrong. Apparently they offer Canadian fare. We asked the server why Hot Box, she said they make their own cured meat. Hmmm...that makes sense. We asked for their best-sellers and she recommended the Candied Bacon.Jai was curious so he went ahead and ordered one. This is one of the worst website decisions we made after Smokeyard (that is a preview of the succeeding statements)The bacon is a bad version of a beef jerky. It is too crispy that the texture resembles sawdust inside your mouth. They used some spices and chili to flavor the bacon. Come on, bacon is good as it is...adding more stuff is sacrilege. While i was trying my best to remove the cringe of my face I thought of something.Restaurant owners should take time to educate their staff about the food they offer. A customer would ask for the best seller and it is a shame that they don't have an inkling of what the dish is. Say, she could've said something along the lines of..."This is not the usual bacon as we used some spices to heat things up."Suffice to say that the Bacon is a Nay. Sorry, Hot Box. Im sure the other stuff in your menu is awesome. I just dont like the bacon - preferences.

Although less known as a website location compared to Maginhawa St. and Kapitolyo, Wilson St. (and the nearby areas) in San Juan is also a place with different types of restaurants and cafes. One of the newer restaurants there is the HotBox Kitchen located along Wilson Streetright after crossing P. Guevarra Street(coming from Ortigas Avenue).

My cousins from my Father's side have started a monthly meet up recently. Its central activity revolves around food and sharing life stories. This was our third stop and next month, it would be my turn to pick the restaurant. Hot Box is a favorite of my newly married cousin and they live just a block away from this relatively new spot at Wilson Street. It is owned by a Canadian and they serve his local cuisine. If you love meat and fancy potatoes, I highly suggest a visit. Don't just try their spiced and sweetened Double Smoked Candied Bacon that the wait staff would recommend, please explore the flavor of their other offerings. Bourbon Glazed Pork Chop was the by far favorite of our group. We order three of these progressively through our mini feast last Sunday. It's tender and seasoned perfectly. At Php 345 it is a bargain treat. It comes with fresh green beans and rice. Next one I loved was their Steak Frites. This Php 955 spectacle is a 10 oz. very appetizing, Angus Rib Eye. A knife is not a need here as this meat could be sliced by a light touch of your fork. Its size says it's good for 2, its taste will make you have it just for yourself. I am not a fan of pasta but I adored their curation of Roasted Garlic Carbonara. It's super rich and tasty, thanks to generous amounts of garlic cream, smoked Kielbasa and parmesan cheese. Another must order would be their artistic rendition of delicious Wonton Crusted Prawns. For 5 pieces at Php 300, this freshly prepared prawns with Togorashi soy aioli dip was a steal deal. Not airy, each bite was packed. We also tried flavor filled Short Ribs, spicy Bangers & Mash, gravy rich and Canadian staple, Poutine and Pulled Pork Fries. Their concept is a welcome change to your usual meat stop elsewhere who serves you just the usual bite of flavors. Here they challenge your palate by providing you and I another boost of spice or seasoning.

I love this place! The ambience is relaxing and it gives off a friendly vibe. The porkchop is just really good. It's soft and full of flavor. The poutine is great too!
