9 out of 10 people like chocolate, the 10th person always lies hahaha! But you know, it is always a good time for coffee and cake right, especially if chocolate is laden in every drink and cake. So one Saturday from one website meet up to another, me and my fellow websites squeezed in a detour to this coffee shop called Tsoko.Nut Batirol somewhere in the Tomas Morato area.

I've been a fan of this brand for years, as they were the first cafe/shop brand to champion locally made cacao and tsokolate preparations. Am not sure, however, that they've found their footing in terms of store operations. I intended to stop here, get a hot chocolate and read through my stack of books. Unluckily, I found the loud buzz of their Iwata fan distracting and unable to cool the cafe, and the bathroom unpleasantly dirty. It turns out there is only one person on staff doing everything, so he couldn't be blamed. The place, with its study lamps and terracotta/Spanish tiles decor, was homey and inviting enough, but I simply decided to get my tsokolate, which was light but nutty and good, to go. Look out for their tablea, coffee and other chocolate based cakes, which they offer in combos with their local-style chocolate. Since they are new to the neighborhood, they're also promoting a P1 pandesal deal. Am rooting for them.

I gotta fix my need for coffee or anything warm cravings as it adds up to my daily budget for food. Yesterday, I fell for this urge once again and even ordered three cakes. I was fortunate I had company to share their desserts. I had their signature Tsokolate, a native concoction using Batirol. It was quite similar to how my mom prepares it except that this one used too much milk. It lacked thickness but somehow compensated with its nice nutty texture. The Mango and Creme Cake won our hearts over and over, after every forkful of their rendition of Conti's best selling Mango Bravo. Meringue to cream balance is on point with just the right amount of sweetness. A big slice of their Yema Sansrival for Php 85 is a steal. Its creamy and not too sugary yema paired well with their chewy layers of meringue. Good to share with four since it's really rich as well. My friends also loved their drinks which included Cafe Tisoy (Amerikano), Salted Kape Karamel and Mocha Latte Shake. At the time we went there was only one staff and he did everything. I am not sure if this was productive for the store. There was ample waiting time to be served considering we were the only ones at the store that time. On a final note, it is interesting that it does not resemble Chocnut at all and before going in I thought it was all about it.

FOOD : not as appetizing as it looks like (or maybe i just expected more from it) The cheesy ensaymada is just ordinary like those you buy from bakeries, the tablea cake is so dry inside and the tsoko nut (hot choco) is not as good as i expected it to be. I'm like quite disappointed. PRICE : it's affordable though (but well, you just get what you paid for) PLACE : the place is too small and i dont recommend this if you want a place where you can relax or spend some quiet time. But maybe, I should go back to this place and try other food from their menu.

I like the richness of the tsoknut batirol. It's really perfect during the cool weather to warm you up. You can also try the various pastries and cakes here depending on your preference.
