I was lucky to be invited to another sponsored website event, and this time it was at The Halal Guys' branch inside Eastwood Mall in Libis, QC.I had been wanting to try The Halal Guys' stuff at first when it first opened at SM Megamall almost three years ago, but eventually the mixed reviews made me a bit hesitant to do so.But fortunately, this website event proved to me that The Halal Guys' offering is not bad at all. I liked it. And since I'm at home with spicy foods, I very much enjoyed most of the food that were served to us in this event. One of the most-awaited parts of this event was the Spicy Chicken BBQ, which will be available for a limited time only. Contrary to the name, the chicken itself was not too spicy; in fact, it was more on the sweet side. But when you add the hot sauce and the white sauce to the dish and combine all of them together, the result was really, really good and satisfying. The chicken was tender too, not dry. It was an explosion of flavors, and I thought it was a very balanced meal. You get all the protein, carbs and vegetables in one plate -- if the Spicy Chicken BBQ doesn't fill your belly, I don't know what will. Most people who have tried their "platters" say that they are bland, they are lacking flavor, etc. The problem lies with NOT mixing all the components together to get the desired flavor. We otherwise did that exactly to our Spicy Chicken BBQ. If you want it a lot spicier, just add the hot sauce. I liked spicy flavors, and I was blown away by their hot sauce (spiciness level: 🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶 over 10) but it was okay. Although it made my nose a bit runny, it was fine!  :) That's the usual reaction you get from eating spicy stuff. I thought any specific dish would be boring without some kick.We also tried the grilled chicken and the beef gyro (which is actually pronounced as "jee-ro"). I failed to take pictures of them, hahaha. The gyro appeared dry (na parang tapa ang dating) but I was pleasantly surprised by it because it turned out to be not too chewy like I expected. It was quite tasty too. However, I preferred the chicken more -- it was tender and a bit bland in comparison, and I think it was better that way because you would partner it with either the white sauce or the hot sauce (or both together, if you prefer). The Hot Wings weren't really "hot" for me; in fact, they were on the saltier side. Good thing I had the pita bread, the blander turmeric rice and veggies on my Spicy BBQ Chicken platter, plus the white sauce, to go with the Hot Wings. But I liked these wings, I liked their flavor, texture and the glaze -- I would have loved them if they weren't a bit too salty. There are a few misses, but overall The Halal Guys stuff is not that bad at all. Well, at least to me! And I love spicy foods, so I would like to try their other dishes soon (plus, they have baklava on the menu, so that's another reason for me to troop to their SM Megamall branch, the most accessible branch I can get to).

I remember back then when The Halal Guys are at the peak of their hype which lasted for a couple of months. As a regular on Eastwood City, we haven't really paid any attention to this restaurant. The team have decided to give it a try despite being clueless about what they really offer (most of the team are really not familiar with halal cooking).

It is always funs to be a part of Looloo Rendezvoos cause you get to meet friendly individuals and enjoy great food. Last month, we got to try Halal Guys’ latest dish called Pocket Sandwiches. So if want something on the go, you should try this one out. It comes in two variants: Falafel and Crispy Cobbler Fish on soft pita wrap.Falafel Pocket Sandwich has 3 huge falafel balls, fresh vegetables (lettuce, onions), fries and special white sauce.Crispy Cobbler Fish Pocket Sandwich has fried onion rings, fresh vegetables (lettuce, tomato) and sweet tangy sauce. This is my personal favorite since I liked the combination of onion rings and crispy cobbler fish. It was a bit messy to eat though but this is kind of mess I don’t mind having. Make use of the container since some of the ingredients falls off the wrap. Generous serving of ingredients per sandwich. It was filling too, these sandwiches are perfect as snacks or even a meal.

This fast casual restaurant is located on the top floor of Eastwood Mall. Ambiance is bright, cheery, and colorful. For lunch, I just got a small platter for lunch (PhP 229) to try their specialty. Many of my friends commented how the taste of The Halal Guys' food served here in Metro Manila is far different from the original in the US. I can't have the same comparison since I've never been to the US. In any case, I thought the taste was okay. The meat was good with both the flatbread and the rice. Entirely, it was very filling. The hot and white sauce is a must to make the dish more flavorful. Waiting time can be tough and especially long during the peak of lunch hour, since many office workers in Eastwood come here to eat. We waited for about 20-30 minutes before the food was served. Because of this, it's not an ideal restaurant to go to if you're in a hurry to go back to the office after a one-hour lunch break.
