Had late lunch here on a Saturday after a visit from Art in Island Cubao. We were too tired and had no idea where to eat and since I have no internet connection, I can't check on website. Lol. Anyway, from the basement elevator, okay I just clicked third level. When we got out, we just walked and walked then saw the restaurants lined up, Thai, Pho Hoa, Sizzling Steak, Gumbo, Pancake House, Mann Hann, Seafood Island and Sumo Sam. They were choosing between Japanese and Chinese. We end up at Sumo Sam and upon entering the restaurant, it was too hot. I don't know if the A/C is broken or it's because there were few customers so they're saving electricity. Haha kidding aside, it was really hot so we sat next to the electric fans. Anyway, Japanese resto.. you already know what to order. Hehe ours were;Ebi Tempura - typicalGreen Chicken - nothing fancy, we were expecting it to be different from the usual fried chickenChicken fingers & fries - well, for my nephew heheTonkatsu Set - for my aunt, she said it was okayChasyu Ramen - for my brother, he said it was really tasty and by the looks, generous servingsSpicy Caravan - really good! Now one of my favoritesHappy Birthday Noodles - cooked like filipino canton, with boiled egg, chorizo sausage and i think asado pork also. Japanese Fried Rice - typical but it was good also. Our total bill was 2,700 and for a group of 4 plus 1 kid, I think it's quite pricey. Hehe anyway, no plans of coming back anytime soon. I'm quite umay na with Japanese food. But I would love to try their other Sushi & Sashimi dish, too many to choose from.

If you’re craving for a sashimi and donburi for lunch, personally, this place can be an option. Ordered salmon sashimi, not that bad but not that good either, just the ordinary sashimi they serve in restaurants. On the other hand, their gyudon is above par among other competitors and their serving is decently large. Unfortunately, the room temperature was a bit hot (prolly because they leave the front door open) but their staff (at the time of visit) were mostly new/trainees, some hands were also left hanging, and the manager needed to call their attention first.

Ordered mine to go. Fair price. Only comment is that they should have sliced the maki thinner for better bite sized portion. Thats it! Hihi. :)

Wanted to try it... but disappointed in their Ramen. Ordered oyster ... but nothing great. Its a bit pricey... yet not as good as ramen nagi, nanbantei and omakase ... hope they improve... at least for the price they charge.

Japanese food in Sumo Sam is so-so at best for me. Kani Salad, Spicy Tuna rolls (or in different formats)The place looks sad though. Not only are they in an obscure location in the mall, its also dark and somewhat sad

Slow service. Nothing special about the food. Their steak is too pricey for the quantity and quality. We (me, my dad and my sis) weren't satisfied at all.

Servers were fast. Food doesn't disappoint. My favorite is the crunchy tuna roll and their seared salmon and tuna roll. Beef yakitori was also flavorful. Overall, my sumosam experience was great! Will definitely go back again.

Very disappointing restaurant! 🔹Sumosam Roll- it was california maki topped with crunchy breadcrumbs. Tasted fine🔹Cheese Roll- it was very oily!! It was fried, had lots of mayo, and the filling was just cheese and fish eggs🔹Gyoza- tasted normal🔹Chicken and Fries- normal also, the fries were not homemade cut potatoes. They could have sprinkled some nori flakes to make it japanese🔹Beef Tenderloin- very tough!! 👎🏻 do not recommend🔸Rock Shrimp Tempura (sweet)- only dish that tasted good🔸Plain rice- very good! Sticky and hotOverall, it felt like i ate in an oily american restaurant. The japanese essence was minimal. The fried dishes were too greasy, and there was too much mayo everywhere. Price was not worth paying for the taste of everything.

Restaurant and food presented beautifully, but compared to other Japanese restaurants not as tasty. Even the sushi was quite plain and bland. No comparison between Japanese food at Sumo Sam and Vikings, which is far superior in every respect. Sumo Sam was also fairly pricey by Filipino standards. Wouldn't bother going back but wanted to try a different restaurant.
