Getting to know the legendary Shantung...website friends described it as legendary or part of their childhood memories. There is something about restaurants with decades-long-history that intrigues....

I'm in my 50's and I could say that I know Shantung. To be more precise about it, I grew up with the brand. I remember dining with my family in the same restaurant, ordering the same food and enjoying the same Chinese feel. However, one can see the age of Shantung peeping through. The Chinese restaurant  is old. Really old.  Shantung needs a renovation. A major one. To bring back the old vitality, the old pizzazz. As they say, to bring back the glory days. But glorious food never left. We tasted the old Shantung touch in every dish served. And my favorite? The Shrimp Balls. Textured pieces with shrimp flavor with every bite. I just love it. Of course, the Pata Tim. I remember that no lunch or dinner at Shantung can never be complete without this very tender pork leg with dark sauce. Another staple in our table is the Shantung Fried Crispy Chicken which can be eaten as is without the sauce or catsup.  The Yang Chow is another must-have (look, I grew up thinking that a Chinese feast will never be enjoyed with plain rice!) that I set aside Intermittent Fasting for awhile and just gorged. Steamed Dumpling. Do I really need to elaborate? And for dessert, Butsi and/Almond Gelatin with Lychees. Perfect with hot tea. My Shantung revisit was an unforgettable one. Couldn't help myself recounting the old days with my millenial website friends who listened patiently. Will be back, Shantung, and this time with the family.

First time here, Dad said he dined here when he was small! We pre-ordered the Stuffed Chicken two days before, it's one of their special menu. It's a boneless chicken with stuffed garnished glutinous rice. It's better than what we had in other Chinese restaurants.Ordered their famous fried chicken too, we are told that the restaurant uses fresh chicken instead of frozen one, very clean and crisp taste of how real chicken tastes like without being overly seasoned.Forgot to take picture of their Bacon Wrapped Shrimp. I appreciate Shantung took the effort to do manually complicated recipes, like this shrimp paste inside the bacon 👍Will visit again for their dumplings as suggested by restaurant staff 😊

Shantung has been at that location for the longest time already. I can remember that my relatives with Chinese blood would bring us here to eat their famous Crispy Chicken and Yang Chow. And I am so happy to be back after a very long time of not eating here.Ambiance - 3.0/5.0As mentioned, I've been eating here for quite some time so I can still remember those times when their chairs are still those foamed ones. Now, they replaced those with foldable ones which is easier to maintain. However, there are some mosquitoes under the table.Service - 3.5/5.0The service is pretty okay. It was not a standout but it was good. I have a feedback which was acted upon fast, so I commend everyone. I just suggest that they should sanitize their plates, glasses and utensils well.Food - 4.0/5.0Hot and Sour Soup - the soup was flavorful and generous in toppings. But if you want to have a more sour soup, ask for a Black Vinegar.Pork in Brown Sauce "Hong Ma" - the Pork Belly is tender and is better with rice. While the sauce is tasty and would be good with Mantou.Fried Intestine - It was crispy. But I suggest it would be better if it was more crispy (like Lechon Macau skin).Shantung Fried Crispy Chicken - the Chicken was really flavorful and crispy even if it is already lukewarm. Also, each Chicken is pretty big. Their star dish indeed.Shrimp Balls - crispy on the outside, very tender on the inside but surprisingly, the Shrimp Ball is intact and does not break at all.Crispy Noodles with Assorted Delicacies - the Crispy Noodles is good on its own and is not salty at all. While the sauce that is included on the meal is flavorful and pretty generous both on the sauce and toppings.Buchi/Butsi - it is pretty big. However, not my favorite but I one of the best ones.
