Say hello to this distinct coffee shop that I've been hearing about for the past few months. This coffee shop is located at Eastwood Mall, inside the Digital Walker, the Recession Coffee. What's so different from this coffee shop is the free will to pay what how much you feel like. Nice right? So one Friday night, we went to dine here and see for ourselves what this coffee shop serves. Since Recession Coffee is located inside Digital Walker, place design was techy, catchy but relaxed. There were plenty of tables and chairs to accommodate customers, though I find the individual chairs a bit small for me. Their famous menu on how-much-you-wanna-pay-for-your-coffee is located on their counter. They have different option when it comes to prices (From 200 to 50). Coffee menu seems good to me though I really don't have much idea of the differences of the coffee since they didn't provide any photos for references. (I guess that's just how this coffee shop works.. It's all about mystery on how tall you cup is or how your coffee looks like. Haha) Btw, aside from coffee, they also serve different yummy pastries and cakes. Anyway, after deciding what to order, Imma share with you now what we ordered. Hot Flat White Coffee ,Hot Latte Coffee, Iced Latte,Iced Cappuccino - Honestly, though they all taste differently but I really can't explain how their individual taste was because it ALL TASTES YUMMY AND GOOD to me. Haha I mean, they all are good weather it was hot or cold. It's actually a good coffee were I know I'll badly crave for. Love Wins (Php150) - If you've read my reviews before, I always say that I'm not a fan or cakes or sweets because sweets are just not my fave. But hey, this is an exception. At first glance, I first thought, maybe this is something I wouldn't like because it looks so sweet. One bite, and the sweetness was just perfect for me. Took another bite and yeees.. it was the perfect cake paired with the coffee. Matcha Brownie (Php85) - I'm a matcha lover but I find matcha and brownie too sweet for my taste. - My friends did liked this btw. Overall, we really had a nice time chilling out here. The place was good and staffs were very polite. Their coffee are definitely something I'll come back for (especially that I now work at Eastwood haha). A new coffee shop (especially for coffee addicts like me) that'll keep you excited and satisfied. Will definitely come back for another cup.

I've been wanting to try this place since I've heard about it. Get coffee and pay whatever amount you feel like? Interesting! So after years of wanting to go, I finally went last night even if I was still full from our dinner. I just didn't want to let the chance pass again. So they really don't have specific prices for their drinks, but their cookies and cakes do because I guess it's from a concessionaire. For their drinks, although they don't have a specific price, they have a sign with some suggestions on what you can pay and how it would make them feel. So I decided to pay P100 for their iced cafe latte to "water their coffee beans." They serve their drinks without sugar so you can go to the side and add it yourself depending on what you want, artificial sweetener, brown sugar, or sugar syrup. Their coffee is actually not bad. It doesn't taste like a watered down coffee that's something that came from a cheap vending machine. It's actually pretty good quality coffee. However, don't expect that their drinks will be as big as in other commercial brands (I did). Apparently, their servings are smaller than usual, even the iced ones, so maybe it's something to consider when you do visit them and when you're deciding how much to pay. But hey, if you're feeling generous, why not? It's good concept anyway. :)

The marketing strategy of this cafe is a good idea but the procedure wasn’t intelligently thought of.Since you will pay for the coffee drink based on its taste, shouldn’t it be tasted and experienced first before paying for what you feel its worth? I went there with a colleague who loves coffee and we agreed that the coffee is disappointing and so-so. You know how the coffee taste if its a second brew. 😕 and we paid 150/cup for the “smiling barista”, just to compensate for his effort to accommodate us in the counter. Had we known that it taste like that, we would have “generously paid” 5 pesos for each cup instead. We wont mind paying more if the coffee’s really good, but man, this marketing strat is a trick! ☹️That’s the most expensive and worthless coffee I ever had. Wont be coming back here.

This establishment offers an interesting concept: you get to decide how much you're willing to pay for your coffee. I know this is commonplace in other countries but highly unusual in the Philippines. I just hope that they let you pay after you try their coffee so you could really gauge how much you're willing to pay for the coffee experience. As for me, I think I paid too much. The service was great but the coffee was ordinary. I also didn't know they only serve it in one size and it was a small one. If I was aware of what I'd be getting, I'd probably pay less. They also have cakes, cookies, and pastries which are aptly priced. These are probably from a different supplier. They had a good place despite having to share it with Digital Walker. It is still conducive to studying or having a meeting.

After hearing the hype over Facebook, my wife and I (along with our daughter) visited this anchored cafe in Eastwood Mall. They are anchored with one of the tech stores there and occupying a space just after the stores entrance.They have couple of tables which is nice, what's funny is the slogans on the tables as they will give you funny quotes about money.My daughter freaking loves this place as they let her get chocolates and candies on their snack jar. We've tried there "pay what you can get what you pay" thing. Told my wife to buy a coffee worth php500 and I ordered a coffee worth php1, I told the barista to surprise us.The difference between the php500 and the php1 coffee is so far! The php500 which is a mocha frappe has coffee jelly on it and chocolate bits. The php1 tasted like 3 in 1 coffee with ice lol!Next time we're around, we'll definitely try their cake.Let's rate them shall we?Food: 5/5Ambiance: 5/5Service: 5/5Value for money: 5/5

I find it weird, bordering scamming, that you're asked to pay for something you haven't even tried. How would know its value? And the barristas don't know the difference between the beans that they're offering, which doesn't help. They should have offered a little taste shot of some sort. To be fair, the coffee was good, even better than some highly commercialized coffee shops. It's just the way it's pressented that made me feel uncomfortable. I would come back for the coffee and don't mind paying for more than its worth (which was what I did), if not for that "rip-off" experience.

Best 3rd wave coffee in the Philippines IMHO. I've had iced lattes in a lot of 3rd wave coffee places in Manila and nothing beats the consistent greatness of Recession. Don't forget to pair your Java with their really really good matcha brownie!

Super love this coffee shop's unique concept where you can pay for your coffee for 1php or 500php and you'd still get amazing coffee! 💕 I paid mine for 150php. I'd definitely be back!

It's true! Pay what you feel is just and right for your cup of coffee. Since we have a small humble farm in Laguna, I think I have an idea what the market value of coffee beans are. I paid xxxx for our cup. Their flat white is good. I still think Toby's Estate does it the best.What i like is Scout's Honor's Matcha Chocolate Brownie. It was served warm and the combination is divine. Perfect with the cup of coffee.Service is quick and the interior blends well with the digital store. It is also immaculately clean and smells good. Senior card honored but i think pay for what is right for your coffee and tip generously.
