Hole-in-the-wall hits muna!Gf was telling me about this Korean restaurant that she really likes. She told me that she likes this noodle dish and when I asked her to describe it, she had difficulty. Now I’m curious. It’s called Jjang Kkae, located along Kalayaan in QC and it’s inside an old building. A little sketchy at first because the way going inside was nothing special at all. Just a corridor plastered with photos of what they offer and the place lacks the “uy mukhang ok dito ah” factor. Inside, you will basic tables and chairs, lit by normal white lights. In addition to that, we were the only ones who were there. We ordered Jjam Jja-Myeon (Php 300, good for 2) which is noodles w/ black bean paste and spicy seafood and vegetable noodles. It comes with a side of onions, a yellow, sweet tasting vegetable (di ko alam kung ano yun), and a black salty dipping sauce (na hindi ko rin alam kung ano yun). A couple of minutes later, a group entered the establishment and ordered the same thing. This dish must be popular. Order arrived. Game time. The noodles with black sauce - The noodles used are like glass noodles, but thicker. Almost translucent and had a nice bite to it. The sauce has sweet notes to it and the texture and experience is like eating an upgraded instant pancit canton with heaps of sauce. The sauce coats the noodles very well and it goes down smooth and easy. As for the other tastes, I couldn’t really describe it. Now I can relate. It’s something that’s not very familiar to the Filipino tongue. As for the seafood noodles, definitely not for someone who’s not a fan of spicy food. This will make your sipon go tulo even if you don’t have sipon. I’m a fan of spicy food and I would rate the spice level 7/10. Not crazy burn your mouth level but you will definitely sweat and feel the heat. The soup also isn’t thick, the seafood and vegetables servings are generous. As for authenticity, I never really got to taste these dishes in Korea but my gf who stayed there for a year told me that the taste is close to the real thing. Overall, a nice find. A different experience.

It’s been awhile since I plan to go to this place. The place is quite hot and not that spacious.Ordered for take away, they have half-half of Jjampong & Jjajangmyeon. Their noodles really really tastes good and is really worth it. Their serving size is for 2-3 persons. Will definitely comeback again for their noodles.
