I'll be honest with you. When I first found out that a restaurant that specializes in "Toast" opened at U.P. Town Center, I was a little wary. What were these people thinking? A restaurant that revolves around different types of toast? Are you serious? .          I thought to myself, in order for this to work, their toast has got to be pretty good.

My initial impression with Cafe Shibuya was expensive. Especially, when they first opened at UP town cernter in Katipunan. It is one of the pioneer restaurant in this compound. Their concept is a Japanese cafe that serves simple Japanese rice meals, cakes, and toasts. This isn’t my first time going to the cafe. I usually order their Triple Dark Ghirardellli Chocolate Frappe. I really love this drink. It rich and chocolatey. It’s so sinful. It’s doesn’t have the milky taste like most restaurants would do, flood it with milk to lower down the cost. This time around, I had their Premium Dark Chocolate Latte w/o espresso. It’s rich chocolate drink that is more chocolate than milk, which I prefer. I usually get my chocolate fix from SB. Most of the cafe serves milk chocolate drink that I dislike. I still find their food expensive (bread + topping = P200+), especially in school saturated area of QC. On the other hand, their Ghirardelli drinks is what makes me keep on coming back.#TheFoodCrawlers #OngsFoodprints #SplatMNL

My wife and I received as a gift a couple of coupons (worth P1000) for Cafe Shibuya. So off we went to the U.P. Town Center to have lunch at this restaurant. We were promptly seated and as we pondered on what to order, our server, Sasha, was standing beside us giving suggestions and answering the questions that we had.  We decided on Honey Lemongrass Chops for me and Baked Salmon for my wife. For our drinks, I had regular coke and Cynthia had the Pink Passion fruit cooler. For dessert, we ordered a slice of the Caramel Pecan Crunch cake which we shared. It took a while for our meals to be served - about 15-20 minutes. The pork chops were cooked well and were tender and juicy. The java rice, however, wasn't up to par and the tomato corn sauce was very minimal. My wife's baked salmon still had that slight fishy taste and the mushroom cream cheese sauce that went with it was quite overwhelming. The Pink Passion fruit cooler was also a bit bland. Their redeeming factor was the cake! It had the crunchiness that we hoped for and the sweetness was just right.Again, I'd like to reiterate that the service given by our waitress and the cashier was excellent. For the food, I'll give a 3.5 rating, for the service, 4.5. The price range was also a bit on the high end - about P300+ for the meals (good thing we had coupons).

We ate lunch here last Sunday to celebrate the birthday of my wife. Love their menu newspaper style. Ambiance is good not too crowded since we are the first customer. Service is fast as well, but orders came one by one. We ordered the Sardines in Olive Oil Pasta, Carbonara, Truffle Soup, Kimchi pasta etc. what i love is their Carbonara and their Nachos really taste good. And everything on the menu is value for money.

We tried the weekday special (mentaiko with truffle soup and garden salad), which we think was value for its money considering the amount of food. We can taste the "Japanese" part of the mentaiko pasta, and we find it good. The truffle soup was served first, which was also okay.We also ordered the three cheese pizza toast, which was cheesy indeed but we cannot differentiate between the three kinds of cheese. The toasts were thick and big, crispy on the crust, and soft on the inside, so they were good for sharing. We also ordered the salted caramel molten cake, but unfortunately we didn't appreciate the salt or the caramel. It got me thinking if they served the wrong molten cake flavor. Though it was still good, with warm chocolate coming from the cake, paired with ice cream. It's hard not to be unhappy about it even if we didn't taste the salted caramel.
