We passed by Café Olay some time last week coming home from dinner at Matalino St. It was just sheer curiosity at first but there's something about the simplicity of the place that was just too intriguing for my website friend. So, when we were both starving this arvo after having back to back group exercise classes, this was the first thing that came to his mind and I was just too hungry to think of something else.It was past 3pm so we didn't have a hard time parking but I imagine it would be tougher during meal times. We liked the homey feel of the place the moment we stepped in. As it's summer, I also appreciated the air conditioning that was set at just the right thermostat. We ordered tokwa't baboy and kare kare bagnet (and rice!) which arrived not too long after. They give huge servings so although it's slightly more pricey than other similar places, it's more justified here. The kare was creamy and the sauce was really heavy. It was perfectly complimented by their Olay shrimp paste (bagoong) which is also a winner on its own. They really did use bagnet so it was heavenly. The presentation was nice too, even for the tokwa't baboy which was equally yummy with its soy sauce and the sour tangy taste fighting in your mouth. The utensils weren't the cheap kind, almost like the new silverware Mum would take out of her cupboard during fiesta or when there's a visitor. The entire place including the toilet was really neat too.Of course, who'd forget dessert? The pastries on display were just a sight to see that we actually ordered and had dessert before our actual meal! Their sansrival was also delicious with just the right sweetness I love it! We will most certainly be back to try their other dishes next time. And oh, did I say we also got some cinnamon rolls for take out? 😜

Cafe Oley is a new destination restaurant conveniently located at the back of East Avenue. The place has a warm ambience of a filipino spanish home, the perfect place for family gatherings or even a date! They serve Colonial Filipino cuisine. The dishes that stands out in this place is their grilled tanigue thats served freshly off the grill, the very tender ox tongue and stuffed squid with a twist! A must visit!

Cafe Oley is a family home converted into a restaurant and located near East Ave. The ambiance is homey and relaxing, and a perfect place for a date or a meal with the family. The restaurant serves classic Filipino comfort foods with a modern take. Be sure to save some room for dessert as the owners are pastry chefs, and the cakes they make are not only appetizing to the eyes, but to the tastebuds as well.I had the opportunity of eating here through the invite of the owners, so meals and drinks are complimentary. For this visit, I tried a number of dishes including:- Sisig Bombs (Php150) - another name for the famed dynamite - green chillies and pork wrapped in spring roll wrapper then fried. Instead of pork, they used sisig for a different taste and texture. I love the crunchiness and flavor of this dish.- Tawilis Salad (Php170) - mesclun greens with assorted vegetables and cheese. The star of this dish are the tawilis, crispy fried small fish that gives the needed crunch and saltiness to the salad. I don't get to eat tawilis often, but I like how it taste. If you are more into the tawilis than the salad, they offer crispy tawilis in the appetizer section for only Php160.00- Paco Salad (Php160) - seldom do I find this classic Filipino dish in a Filipino restaurant. I am very happy to see this here. The fiddlehead ferns are crunchy and the added tomatoes, salted egg, shrimps, red onions, and the sour calamansi vinaigrette just blends everything up to a very tasty dish. One of my favorite dish during this visit.- Lengua (Php330) - literally melts in your mouth in rich mushroom sauce.- Kare Kare Bagnet (Php290) - probably one of the most visually appetizing kare-kareng bagnet I have ever seen. It has a beautiful plating and a sweeter-than-normal peanut sauce which complements the salty bagoong of their own concoction. The bagnet is crispy and satisfying.- Pork Belly Roll (Php460 for 500g) - I am not a fan of this, but most of my friends say it was delicious. Maybe I'm not really a fan of pork rolls. The meat was okay but the skin was disappointingly not crunchy.- Grilled Tanigue Tail (Php260) - the fish is tender and you can taste the charcoal grill of it. I love the sweet and sour sauce it marinates in. This is a must-try.- Stuffed Squid (Php310) - perfectly cooked whole squid stuffed with vegetables and cheese. I was surprised with the cheese because everything goes well with cheese. It made the fillings creamier. Although, the fillings would be better if they were sliced a little bigger so that everything would combine well.- Adobo Rice (Php230) - what I like about this is that it is not oily and not salty.- Seafood Pasta (Php310) - slightly spicy tomato sauced linguine with generous servings of fresh seafood.- Penne Pesto (Php310) - lightly-creamed pesto with chicken chunks and tons of button mushrooms. A delight to eat.- Rainbow Velvet Cake (Php140) - one of the few shops I know that serves really good rainbow cakes that are smooth, moist, and good. I am not a fan of food coloring, so a few bites is enough for me. :-)- Exotic Cake (Php130) - a medly of coconut and mango. A refreshing taste.- Ensaymada (Php90) - soft and fluffy and glazed with caramel.Overall, food and service are good. Will definitely visit again if dropped by the area. Also, do visit them during their Grand Opening on February 15. I am sure it will worth your while.

Cafe Oley is a house converted restaurant along Malakas St. cor. V. Luna in Quezon City that serves comfort Filipino food with a modern twist. The whole ambience of the place gives a homey feel that lets you relax, eat, and enjoy each others company. The whole experience with the warm service makes you feel like you're just at home on a summer day.Paco Salad is not a common dish to be served in Manila, especially the supplies of the ferns. The paco (fiddlehead ferns) are tossed with prawns, cherry tomato & red onion in calamansi vinaigrette I like how they cooked the fern just right that maintained the crunchiness of the stems. The cherry tomatoes gave it a hint of sweetness that balanced with the refreshing calamansi vinaigrette. It was a dish that reminds me of Pampanga.Kare Kare was served with the usual vegetables but served with fried pork belly. The sauce of the kare kare was a bit sweet, but it was smooth and creamy. (Maybe the use of local peanut butter) I like how their  consistency, which was not too thick nor runny. It just lacks the umami body of a kare kare sauce. I was looking for the richness of the sauce. The bagoong was salty that just balances with the sweetness of the sauce.Adobo rice was topped with adobo flakes & salted egg. The rice wasn't stir fried, which is good. It was cooked with their seasonings, but was dry. The rice was fluffy and was cooked too perfectly that it became dry, instead of being moist.Lengua was cooked with a creamy mushroom sauce. The lengua was cooked to tender that almost melt in your mouth. The sauce lacks the body also. It tasted like cream of mushroom that was spread all over the lengua.Grilled Tanigue Tail was glazed with their special sauce. (Sweetened soy glaze). The grilled fish was fresh and cooked to perfection. It wasn't flaky and overcooked. Stuffed squid was filled with red onion, tomatoes, and cheese. The sauce was the same as the tanigue tail. I enjoyed the melting cheese of the filling that compliments with the sauce. It's something that is not your usual filling for the squid. Sweet, salty, cheezy, and a bit tang. The squid was a bit overcooked though, that became gummy.Pork Belly Roll was a roulade of pork belly filled with lemongrass & garlic, similar to the lechon cebu. It was fragrant, herby tender pork meat. It was just a bit bland for me, but the flavor profiles is food. The skin was a big factor for me, a bit gummy. Exotic Cake is layers of coconut crust, sponge, passionfruit mousse, and coated with passionfruit gelee. At first, you can taste the citrusy, sweet-fruity flavor from the mousse. The toasty dessicated coconut crust combines well with the flavor. Its like summer in a tropical paradise in your mouth. It would pair perfectly a fruity coffee.Chocolate cake was a combination of multiple flavor profiles and textures for all the chocolate lovers. Chocolate ganache, chocolate mousse, coffee cream, and a chocolate sponge is just explotions of different notes in your mouth. It was heaven in your mouth.Cafe Oley is a comfort place I would go to on any occasions. It is a great place for family and friends to just chat and catchup over our Filipino favorites with a twist.I'll be back here again and I hope they improve on my points of concern and will update this review again.#TheFoodCrawlers

Had the pleasure of dining at this place. I absolutely love their take on the monggo soup. It was light and it has a different layers of flavors in every sip you take. The crispy Tawilis (Its the first time I came across and have ordered this is Manila restaurant) was a surprising treat it was fried well light properly salted matched with a sauce that compliments the fish well. Their crispy tadyang was also good though Ive tasted better. This place has a homey feel being that it was a garage that was converted to a restaurant along Matalino st.

Cafe Oley has such a cozy ambiance and really attentive servers. We, however went on a weekday afternoon thus the place was not filled. There's actually only one table that was occupied aside from ours. My friend has been raving about their cakes and coffee so I had them first. I tried their Exotic cake which was really good especially for those who have had enough of chocolate cakes and would like to try something new. I had the Tuyo pasta for my main dish and this too didn't dispappoint. Serving was generous, could be shared by two if you are ordering another dish. My friend had their Grilled Tuna and his reaction after his first bite was convincing enough to know that it was also good. For dessert, he had their Choco de Oro cake. I am not difficult to please when it comes to chocolate cakes but this one I should say could also fall under the "sinfully "yummy- death by chocolate cake" category. Oh and their coffee? It was deliciously strong, we were both palpitating towards the end of the night. :)Too bad the pasta was too filling, I couldn't have any more food from their menu. What more... the aroma of the dishes the table next to us ordered was so enticing, I could tell they were flavorful! I will dedinitely be back soon to try these dishes out.

Got a chance to go in this cafe for we have been eyeing this quite a long time, and it did not disapppoint me. :) The coffee, and the cheesecake as well as the rainbow velvet cake are all good. It is the beef lasagna that stood out the most. It is very good! At 350.00, good for two, worth it! 👌👍👏God bless Cafe Oley! Will come back again :)
