Have to give justice to the food and the reviews for Bobo's. Glad to be part of the food tasting hosted by website after a few weeks of stress at work (plus it's super near my new office! Hehe)Bobo's is a small and open (no air-conditioning) restaurant along the street of Maginhawa. It's actually my first time here and I was kinda surprised that they have good yet affordable Italian cuisine. For the website food taste, we had the following:Pizza (very affordable brick oven pizza in the metro)Bobo's Pizza - One of their famous pizza and is definitely worth your money!Quattro Formaggi - may favorite among pizza cos it has a generous amount of cheese! Drooling and will probably go back for more! :)Pepperoni Pizza - Good amount of pepperoni and cheese but it didn't really stood out among the group.Margherita Pizza - It was served a bit too late but it didn't disappoint :)All meat Pizza - Meat in the pizza would include pepperoni, ham and sauasage. I just hope it had more meat like bacon!Hawaiian Pizza - not really a fan of it but some of the website foodies said it was okay.Pasta Aglio Olio Tuna Pasta - CAUTION: too spicy but very deliciousBolognese Pasta - Reminds me of the bolognese pasta I had in Bicol which I love the most. SO GOOD!Puttanesca - The sauce is kinda bland (something to improve on!)Carbonara - Creamy but a bit bland. Hope there's more cheeese.Risotto Meals (afforable risotto meals)Osso Buco Saffron - Meat is tender and a very tasty sauce. I just hope the sauce is mixed with the risotto.Il Pesce Pesto - Was kinda hesitant to eat this cos the risotto is paired with deep fried fish fillet, but it is actually good.  The risotto itself has distinct pesto taste and was a crowd favorite that night.Salsiccia Tomato and Il meatballs tomato- Wasn't able to try both cos I was already full but most of the website foodies loved it.Desserts (started with pizza, ended with pizza)Apple cinnamon pizza - Flavorful dessert pizza. We just hope it has a thinner crust and served with ice cream!Choco-nut pizza - It's good but there were some parts with burnt chocolate which resulted to bitter taste.

In one of website and PLDT SME gatherings, I met other restaurant owners, learned new concepts with them and shared experiences. Here, I also met Brian who eventually invited me to Bobo's Pizzeria. The name actually stands for its main offering- Best of Brick Oven Pizza. Its name surprises like what they offer in a small yet cozy hub along the densely populated food area of Maginhawa. Besides a variety of pizza, they also have pasta and risotto creations. Their brick oven masterpieces offers light thin dough with flavorful toppings for a steal deal. The tasty Napoletana was just Php 175 for a whole pie. You can even have two types on that 8 inch diameter. Osso Bucco Safron Risotto was my favorite. It camewith creamy rice and a generous portion of succulent beef and tomatoes. We were supposed to share this, I forgot and ate most of it. Superb deal at Php 185.The pastas presented were my least favorites but still a bargain. The Pesto had a weak taste. I guess it could use more pesto presence and parmesan for more intense flavor. The Bobo's Pasta which was a combination of meat and veggies had a nice touch of tomato sweet and sour tomato sauce and spiced meat. Since it's located on the open street, expect unfavorable temperatures and no restroom. It is a place though for great Italian picks!

After reading all the reviews in website about this place, I was a bit hesitant to visit because I might just waste my time and money for it. Curiosity got the best of me when website invited me so I went anyway. Well, there is nothing fancy on the ambiance since you get to sit on chairs on the sidewalk, and it's as al fresco as you can get, not really suitable for our summer heat.Nevertheless, I was surprised when the eating began. Bobo's or Best in Brick Oven Pizzeria serves affordable and delicious Italian dishes but do not scrimp on quality. Their dishes are authentic in taste. The menu is basically divided into three: pizza, pasta, and risotto. During this visit, we tasted virtually everything on the menu.Premium Pizza: Bobo's Pizza, All-Meat, Four Cheese: my favorite would be the Bobo's Pizza because it is a mix of everything. The toppings are generous and everything can be tasted. That is how fresh it is.Classic Pizza: Margherita, Hawaiian, Pepperoni: an uncle once told me that the best way to test the skill of a chef is to try their most basic dish, if they can make it well, then the more difficult dishes would not be a problem. And this is how I felt with their Margarita. One bite, and the cheese, tomato, and basil can be tasted, and fresh too. I was so happy with this pizza, I bought one for take out and gave it to my wife, which she consumed everything before we got home.Generally, I like their pizza crust because it is crispy and crunchy, like eating a biscuit with texture. It is something I would want to finish and come back too.Dessert: they also offer dessert pizzas: Choco-Nut and Apple Cinnamon. I prefer the Apple Cinnamon because of its fragrance and flavor. The crust for the dessert is thinner and crispier.Pasta: Bolognese, Carbonara, Puttanesca, Aglio Olio. For a non-beef eater like me, I love that their bolognese is made with pork, but my favorite would be their Puttanesca, just enough saltiness and sourness that makes you crave for more. The carbonara did not work well for me because I find it too liquid instead of creamy. The bacon was also thick and difficult to chew. The Tuna Aglio Olio was spicy, I was surprised when I ate it. I hope that they would note on the menu that it is spicy so that customers will be warned. They serve tomato-based and cream-based sauces on linguine and oil-based sauces on spaghetti - I like the technicality of it.Risotto: Meatball, FIsh Pesto, Osso Buco, Chicken and Tomato, Sausage: Risotto is a very difficult dish to make, if you watch Top Chef and Top Chef Masters, it is the dish that always sends a chef home. I like Bobo's risottos because they are perfectly cooked and creamy. My favorite would be their chicken and tomato. The chicken is very tender for a breast part, and the tomato blended with the risotto well. The only downside for this restaurant is well, it's hot eating outside, with disposable utensils, and no toilet. With a few seats, I would suggest they invest in plastic utensils instead. I can recommend Bobo's if you want something legit yet affordable. In my opinion, it can be compared with Greenwich Pizza in terms of taste. I would be willing to travel from Binondo for a taste of their pizza again.

I've been to Maginhawa thousands of times but this is my first time to try out Bobo's (ty website team ty trish!! haha)Verdict: Pizza > PastaI love how they met my expectation for pizza at a budget friendly price. They were generous with their toppings and it seasoned well. I dislike all meat pizzas but wow they serve pretty good all meat pizzas. It didn't taste like dog food (lol i call meatballs dog food anyway) the combination of meat on the pizza made it taste really goodPasta was just okay. Nothing special. Or maybe cos I have high expectations especially when it comes to carbonara. It was a little bit bland and soupy...Had both their dessert pizza and I like the nutty chocolate one better. Wish they would expand their desserts cos honestly I got umay after eating the pizzas served earlier hahaGood budget friendly find though. Will come back again

Last week, I was invited to have dinner at Bobo’s Pizzeria along Maginhawa St. in Quezon City. This was my first time to explore the Maginhawa area which has become a food street in the past few years. We just never got around to going there because it was a bit out of the way for us, and when we talk about eating in QC, the places that come to mind are Banawe and Morato.
