#EatDrinkSplurge-----First Review: May 2017Celebrated Mother's Day with my mom and sister last Saturday at Bistro Remedios. Of course, they had to go to the QC area, because I had work that day until 6PM. My mom migrated from Hongkong when she was still a teenager, but she adores Filipino food! 👌When my sister texted me that they wanted us to eat at Bistro Remedios, I immediately called to reserve seats for us, so we won't have to wait for a long time when we get there. True enough, when we got there, we got our table right away. We then proceeded to order. While waiting, they served us some prawn crackers, similar to the ones Chinese restaurants serve with their fried pigeon. 😄 Here's what we got for our mother's day feast:✔ Home Style Binacol Soup (Php 385 - good for sharing) - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐My mom LOVED this dish! 💜 It's like a leveled up Tinolang Manok, but the soup tastes sweeter, since they used coconut water for it. My mom's only complaint was that she wanted the chicken to be chopped into smaller pieces. Although, upon eating a piece of the chicken breast (a cut our family hates, because it's usually tough and dry), she was truly amazed at how tender the meat was. The chili leaves also added more flavor to the already scrumptious soup dish.✔ Lumpiang Sariwa (Php 125) - ⭐⭐⭐Okay, I have to tell you that my rating might not do much justice for this dish, since I am really not a fan of lumpiang sariwa in general. I'm not sure what they fill the wrappers with, but I don't like it. I was just thankful thewrappers weren't too doughy, and was of the right thickness. Just a side note: My mom and sister said their version was good. But then again, based on my personal preference, I won't be able to give it a full score rating. Whether it be prepared at home or bought in a restaurant, I love it so much! 😋 Their version of the binusog na pusit is more on the sour side, I think they must have already poured some vinegar over the squid. They serve two big squids for this dish, with its meat tender and not overcooked. I would prefer more stuffings for them though, as I failed to really taste the tomatoes, onions, etc. It's more of just a mush of everything -- hence the -1⭐.✔ Ensaladang Sarswela (Php 235) - ⭐⭐⭐We got this because I wanted a vegetable dish, but I did not like the lumpiang sariwa they ordered. This dish has the usual greens and tomatoes, plus Vigan longganisa bits, fried tofu, and grated cheese. For me, its taste is a bit one-dimensional as the longganisa weren't that flavorful and were too dry, while the tofu was cut into piece that were too small. I liked the vinaigrette dressing though, but my sister found it to be too sour.✔ Masustansiyang Kanin (Php 230) - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐#HealthyLiving 😁 It's basically fried black rice, topped with some vegetables and scrambled egg, though we opted not to let them include the scrambled egg as my sister is allergic. The rice initially seems to taste a bit burnt, but eventually, we enjoyed its flavorfulness. The rice still has that bite, as it is cooked al dente. I loved it so much! If only all black rice can taste as good as this, I'd have no problem in skipping the white rice altogether. 😁✔ Halo-Halo (Php 145) - ⭐⭐⭐We got this for my mom, because she loves eating halo-halo. Their version is served is a bowl shaped cup, and topped with a scoop of ube ice cream. For me, it's a bit too pricey, since it does not have any special toppings in it anyway. Also, my mom says that the toppings were not enough for the size of the bowl. 😭✔ Sikreto ni Maria Clara (Php 175) - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Shhh... *whispers* I'll let you in on a secret. This is probably one of the best Filipino desserts among those I've tried so far. 😍 Warm sticky rice (suman) and perfectly ripe slices of mangoes, covered under a pile of smooth and creamy macapuno ice cream! 😋 Now this is one secret I'm glad I discovered tonight. 😁 There is no specific menu description for this, so I hope you remember this review when you dine here -- it's a secret, after all. 😉Apart from the well-prepared food, they exceeded our expectation when it comes to their service, too. Our server, Alex, was smiling all the time, and before I even asked him if he could help us capture this moment by taking our photo, he was already beside our table ready to do it! Wow! 👌 The manager is also roving around, making sure that everything is in place. The restaurant is made to be like an ancestral home, with stained glass windows and wooden tables and chairs. Truly Filipino, if you ask me.Overall, I commend them for delivering generally good food, coupled with an ambiance that would make Filipinos at home; and to top it all off, service that went beyond what is expected of them. Truly commendable, Bistro Remedios! We'll definitely be back. 👌

Food tastes fairly well. However their portions are so tiny that is mostly good for one to two persons only. Price is also on the high side. Definitely not for the budget conscious.

Well presented but most importantly all tasted good. My favorite surprisingly was the pako and salted egg. A second trip is a must and a nice place to introduce Filipino cuisine to foreign guests.

Being a resident of Pasig , for the past few years, I really don’t frequent SM North too often. I can’t even remember the last time I was there, so I was quite surprised to see the new areas, especially The Block. Seeing the place made me feel like I was a kid in a candy store, for the lack of a better analogy. New restaurants have sprouted one after the other, creating a utopia for food lovers everywhere! And I’m not talking about food stall type selections either. I’m talking about diverse selection of restaurants with international flavors that will satisfy every palate!
