NINAK, or "kanin" ("rice" in Filipino) reversed, was one of my favorite Asian restos in the South when I was still a budding website 8 years ago. I'd go either alone or with my family/friends to Northgate Alabang just to have their many kinds of fried rice, curry dishes & noodles. Back then, I still avoided vegetables so now I'm excited to try Ninak's menu items with veggies.---PIALUM LAGYU This is a cross between Vietnamese spring rolls & Filipino lumpiang ubod in terms of vegetable ingredients. And even if it was served w/ the special Ninak sauce, I think each fried roll was tasty enough & the need for any dip is unnecessary. This was really filling, and is ought to be shared! PAD THAI With so many versions of this around Manila, I feel like there are only two very strong contenders: this of Ninak (local resto) & that of Black Canyon's (international Asian chain). I make pad thai at home, too, and I think what's crucial about this noodle dish is the mix of tamarind & fish sauces. Fail that & you fail on the rest of the details. Ninak--over the years--has consistently made good chicken Pad Thai, and I'm so glad I'm able to have it again after years of craving. In fact, I even met the same chef from the old Northgate branch when we went to eat at the Kapitolyo branch. Woohoo! 💃---Want to see more semi vegetarian (+ dessert food features)? 😊Follow me on Instagram: @thissemivegetarianlife And find me on Tumblr: thissemivegetarianlife.tumblr.com

Upon checking the menu, that's the only time I noticed that its Asian cuisine . I looked around. (Again my ignorance) but I instead of what the crew suggested to me, I go to my instinct , tinapa rice , pinakbet and Turon halo - halo. I'm glad I choose this meal. Different cooking of pinakbet I was thinking if I can cook the same, tinapa rice . I like it more than java rice now. I will surely get this one soon. Halo halo Turon not typical Turon you have for your afternoon meals. This one is superior with that of caramel syrup. Its better.

Since there were only two of us, we only ordered two dishes: the Laksa (P320) and and the Chicken BBQ with Ninak Sauce (P270).I'd totally recommend both dishes to anyone who wants to try Ninak. Their chicken barbecue was tender, I just wish the dipping sauce had more flavor - the chicken still tastes great even without it though. Their laksa caught me off guard because I'm so used to laksa being spicy, and theirs just wasn't. That's not necessarily a bad thing, especially if you're not into spicy food... at least I wasn't sweating or wiping my nose halfway through the meal. :P Would love to come back to try their other offerings :)

Of all the good restos in Kapitolyo area, I made a mistake of bringing kids here. I love Asian food but most of their entrees were a bit spicy for children. Food though was good enough to share and staff were helpful. But they somehow needed to add a few stuff that was less spicy to balance out the menu. The laksa was great and it was on the sweet spicy side, probably theirs had more peanut sauce in it. The Hainanese Chicken needs a bit more flavor and serving it deserved some finesse since it was cut in really big pieces. Malaysian bean sprouts with salted fish was good also. I enjoyed the Fish Fillet in Soy most of all.
