Calderon specializes in home-style Spanish dishes, including paellas and tapas to name a few. I cant really make a full blown review as we have only tried their croquettas and beef salpicao. Both were just fine - of middling taste, not really notable. Had their churros (to-go) but for some reason I didnt get to try it. Service is quite slow. Food took time to arrive as well. Place is cozy, with a hint of both modern and traditional elements. I have yet to go back for their paellas (I heard its their main selling point/bestseller)! Will update my rating as soon as I get to try em..

since it's the holiday, i decided to treat myself with something pricey. the place was very great. very cozy. traditional and modern. note to self: do not eat here if you're really, really hungry. like if you don't have a spare.moment of strength and patience to wait. the service is kind of slow. the food was great but nothing really stood out. well, okay, i guess the churros :)

Many of Calderon's dishes are familiar including classics like Paella Negra & Lengua, though this particular menu seems to be even more Iberico pork-centric than Opera Tavern.The interior design feels homey-musculine plush, steely, with moody lights and the overall colours are rich, dark and brooding – like stained wood with thick coats of maple syrup. On the ground floor, there are a couple of tables plus couches on the wall with a full hot kitchen behind it. It doesn’t look small, but seems over-furnished and so it feels tight.Twas my cousin's first time to dine at a Spanish bistro, and since we both had dinner that time, it's only normal that we settle in for a carafe of sangria; and a platter of tapas. Oh man, this was the highlight of the meal. That almost sweet, smoky, crispy burnt meat (but not), melting fat, char-siu like or satay like even. Juicy, plump, pizzaro pink in the middle, superiorly tender, fatty flavour filled iberico rolled pork. So tender that, you could just eat each slice whole without having to cut into it. Add on a few counts of olives & grapes, and of course the sample of cheeses.It’s impossible to say bad things about Calderon's food – rich, full flavoured, high quality produce, if you’re already a spanish-food fan, you’ll love this too. Glad to be rediscovering the tapas trend and happy to report that its master purveyor is still at the top of its game in 2016.

It's my mom's birthday and she wanted something different than the typical buffets. She asked me for a Spanish resto and I discovered Calderon. I called and reserved for 12 pax, the waiter immediately placed my reservation and offered their Pollo Ibérico (it's like a roasted chicken cooked for approximately 3 hrs) and Paella since these two dishes takes time to prepare. The place was a bit small but so good that they maximized the space that's why it doesn't feel crowded. Comfort room was very tidy. But wifi wasn't working well.1. Waiters - They are very friendly and attentive. We were 12 in the table, we call them from time to time yet still served us with a smile. Just one thing, kindly make sure to refill the water. I remember asking for water at least 5 times. 2. Food - AHHHH!!! Everything was scrumptious.Paella Negra was very nice. It was tasty because of the squid ink but you won't be sated. You'll keep wanting for morePollo Ibérico was really tender and tasty also. But a bit pricey. Still so good.Lengua Con Setas was tender as well. Balances the simple taste of the Pollo Ibérico. The sauce was smooth. Pasta de Chorizo was nice.Churros - Not so special, I think the oil used was not new.We ordered a lot more but those I mentioned was top of my favorites.Overall, we enjoyed it! Everything went well. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.Ps: I got the waiter's number because I'll definitely come back

Back in 2011, I was one of our school's delegates to World Youth Day held in Madrid. We were referred to as "peregrinos" - pilgrims - and being such entailed days of sacrifice. Although we did extend a few days after the WYD proper to do some touring around Spain, I'm afraid I wasn't able to splurge on the local cuisine as much as I would have wanted. When I feel a little too nostalgic for my own good, Calderón is just what I need. The first thing we noticed upon entry is the promo on their chalkboard about the Sangria. Mom jokingly asked a waiter about the cheap prices of the alcoholic drinks, to which he replied "Para mas masaya, Ma'am" without missing a beat! Calderón already seemed like the go-to place to have a good time with workplace buddies or your barkada, or even the "mag-nanay who drinks together that stays together" like Mom and me. As a quick guide for first timers at Calderón, I would recommend choosing three Tapas (small plates/finger food, not to be confused with appetizers), and one Paella. Mom and I like to go with the Calamares, the Salpicao, Chorizos, and of course, Paella Valenciana. (Just between you and me, I especially like soaking up the extra Salpicao sauce/oil with the complimentary bread.)If you're not on a tight budget and you have extra room in your tummy to spare, you could also go for mains. Noteworthy ones include the Chuleton, Lengua (if you're more adventurous than I am), and the Pollo Iberico. To top the experience off, the interiors give an authentic rustic Spanish villa feel, with the tile accents, bright patterns, faux windows, to the egg carton-lined ceilings! They really take me back and make me feel warm and fuzzy inside.Again, I am by no means an expert on Spain and Spanish cuisine, but Calderón is a gem waiting to be discovered!

Went here Sunday evening after making a reservation and pre-ordering the Pollo Iberico. The place is a nice homey setup. Service is very prompt and friendly. We had a white wine sangria carafe to share. The sangria was good ... but not great.The above mentioned Pollo Iberico arrived and looked extremely good. We also ordered the calderata Español.The chicken was tender and well marinated. Both the dishes were good .... but sadly not absolutely, finger-licking yummy. Perhaps we expected too much.Should visit the place again to try the paella.

Best paella negra in Metro Manila, according to my cousins but I prefer the Valenciana. Croquettas and the Dinamita Frita are definitely worth trying.

Nice little place in Kapitolyo. The food was good and I really liked the Callos which is pretty hard to perfect but this resto has got it! Reasonably price and the service was pretty quick. Will definitely go back for their free flowing Sangria every Monday!

I was craving for paella the past few days. I finally got the chance to eat at Calderon. We had paella vallenciana, gambas and Sangria. It's ok both for paella and gambas. The paella was good but I had better. As for the Sangria, I didnt like it. it didnt taste like one. We will definitely come back! We're planning to try the Chorizo Pasta and Callos on our next visit.

I rarely give the rate of 5 but here i'll do it over and over.. I love this small restaurant along kapitolyo that you wont even notice but super good food. I love everything that we ordered (which basically almost the entire menu) i probably been here 8 times already in a few months. Paella negra is the best, also the paella valenciana but ofcourse you have to wait 30mins or so for it to be serve or better yet call in advance so when you get there you wont have to wait that long. Then the lengua is just perfect! Mixed with other more dishes. But to top it all up, after all the great meal i had the best sansrival! The best because not only it is sansrival it is macadamia. My ultimate favorite nut. It's so good i can't even explain it. Kudos to the chef who perfected it.. (The way i want it) there's only one problem, not enough parking for their guests so if you're lucky you wont have to park far.
