Last week, Tim and I had a pretty amazing date at Barcino in City Golf Plaza. I went to their branch in Burgos Circle a few months ago with some girl friends and really enjoyed my experience there, so I thought it would be a good place to spend a quiet post-Valentines date with my SO as well. Thanks to website, we didn't have to go all the way to BGC. Prior to this, I thought all their branches were in the south - I mean, I've been to City Golf a couple of times already, but I don't recall ever seeing the restaurant there. Turns out, it is tucked away on the second floor, giving it a more exclusive and romantic feel.

Disclaimer: This 1-star review is a score on their service as we weren't actually able to eat at this restaurant (they never served us!)We were 6 in a group with 3 gold members so we decided to have dinner in Barcino. Since the tables are full inside the resto, we were sitted on the chairs outside. When we mentioned that we would like to claim our gold benefits, they asked a different server to explain the rules. The female server was firm that it was a 2+1 deal, for 1 member to avail of a promo, you should order 3 meals to get the last meal free. So for our group of 6, we need to order 9 (I messaged website and this is indeed a wrong interpretation). I asked the server if I could see the rules. She went back in and didn't come out again for about 15 minutes so we left the resto in dismay. I would have entered the resto and made a complaint but I was not in the mood to make a scene.

My S.O. and I find anything with squid ink hard to resist! There are only 2 Spanish restos we go to for the best Paella Negra in town, and until now, we haven’t really decided which one is better! One of them is Barcino. Their version of Paella Negra is cooked al dente with each savory grain coated in rich squid ink. Drizzled generously with aioli, this dish was simply mwah!

My friend had one of those days you just want to drink wine and vent. Since, I'm always game for any hangout session. I accompanied her and ordered a few bottles. It's been years since I last went here and they renovated the place a bit. She ordered Chorizo & Cheese Platter (Php1690) and some slices of meat (which I can't remember what it's called.) For wine, we ordered the cheapest on the menu knowing we'll order 2 bottles. They offer one free toilet use, cause normally you need to pay Php10 to use the toilet. This part here has always been a ripoff.

Love their wine selection. Although a bit pricey now compared from the first time they opened sometime about a decade ago, they have remained to be the perfect wine spot. The cozy area, the ambiance and the food selection that is a little more extensive. Our to go to place!

This place has been here for the longest time. The surrounding area has already changed but this place continues to serve great Spanish food, which my family and I have loved and will continue to love. Order the paellas—the mixta and the negra are very good—as well their stews and casseroles. And of course, have their red and white sangrias.

Best place to be if you're looking for a chill wine night. They also serve a variety of drinks. Great ambiance and good Spanish food! (I love their garlic toppings 😅)

This was my second time in Barcino. My first visit was in the SM Aura branch. I haven’t been to any Barcino branch until today. This was because I wasn’t satisfied with my previous visit. I came again today with hopes of my second-rate encounter being due to an unfortunate circumstance. We ordered...Montaditos Salmon y Cangrejo - This had smoked salmon, crabstick and bread. It was alright. I wouldn’t order it again though.Croquetas Pollo y Jamon - This was a good dish. I won’t mind having it again, although I would try their other Croquetas in the future.Pimientos del Piquillo Rellenos de Carne - This was average. Paella de Rabo de Toro - I wouldn’t normally order paella that wasn’t the classic/ traditional valenciana or the negra. However, I decided to order this one since it was the Chef’s recommendation and is said to be really good. I wasn’t disappointed. The texture was excellent and the taste was superb. It had the perfect socarrat (“tutong” in Filipino). I’d try the more traditional paella next time though. I’m already anticipating it’s great taste.Salpicao Tenderloin - We requested it to be medium but it came out medium well. No worries though, it still had the right texture and consistency. We enjoyed this dish. Callos a la Madrileña - The serving was bigger than expected. I didn’t really like the Callos. I wouldn’t order it again.Delicia de Chocolate - I’ve seen a lot of people order this. I was honestly torn between this or the Churros. I decided to get this though since I didn’t think their churros would be at par with that of other establishments. It looked really good but it tasted ordinary. I would try the Churros or the new Almond chips thing on their menu next time.Recommended: Paella. Salpicao Tenderloin, and Croquetas. (I remember their Gambas being good, albeit expensive).Overall, this is a great place to go to when you’re craving Spanish food, but the price isn’t worth the food. We spend I think around 4.5k for 3 people. I believe we could have dined somewhere else and received the same level of satisfaction for a cheaper price. Yet again, it would not be the same.On the brighter note, Barcino is said to be a “classic”. You can’t go wrong with this restaurant. They serve reliable and favorable Spanish food. They also have a lot of branches so I’m bound to come back.
