After a tiring client meeting this morning, we stopped by at Tiendesitas to get lunch before going thru the December traffic back to Ortigas where our office is. With everyone being nostalgic about Aysee in Ultra, we thought of having lunch at Aysee here in Tiendesitas open food court. We order their known bestseller pork sisig with egg and adobong kangkong with tokwa. The sisig was sizzling hot when it was served to our table. And it was the same crunchy sisig all through out the way we used to remember. But today, i tasted something that put me off a little bit which i didn't notice before. It seemed like there is a hint taste of margarine in the sisig. What was a bigger hit for me was their adobo kangkong. It had a generous serving with big chunks of crunchy pork meat and crunchy tokwa. The vegetable was cooked perfectly, still crisp and not soggy. And the sauce was delicious that you would like to sauce it to your rice. All in all, a very filling and satisfying lunch for us.

I have no idea why people consider Aysee's sisig to be among the best. A few years ago we had some at their Oranbo branch and it tasted bland -- basically the taste of chicharon with onions. You can't even detect any taste or scent of having been grilled. Because of that experience, we stayed away from Aysee's for years, and continued to wonder what people saw in their sisig. Recently we decided to give it one more chance we tried their pork sisig again at their Tiendesitas branch. This time it was worse. It was still the same bland taste of chicharon and onions, but horrors -- with lots of STAR margarine mixed in. Without a doubt the worst sisig I've had. Stay away from this sisig. I feel sorry for the host of Street Food Around the World for having been taken to Aysee's to sample our famous Filipino dish. He was probably just too kind to say how bad it was.
