With ribs being the website trend of the town, this relatively new joint serving Southern US cooking seeks to offer more than the usual ribs and booze pairings. South on South occupies the far end of President's Avenue, a treasure trove of lesser known food shops, away from the busier end of Aguirre Avenue. You won't miss it with its large signage. Their menu, although limited, centers on Southern US fare with a little local twist. The place is cozy and dimly lit, which may put off some diners looking for a family friendly place, as it may seem like a pub. Don't fear though, the place is not stuffy. Parking space is also ample. Highs:1. Wicked wings: The wings are crisp and retain their juices within. A hint of spice is rendered by the tabasco and butter glaze. No need for the garlic aioli dip, really. Good as a starter or paired with rice. A bit pricey though for 5 pieces (winglets). 2. Country Fried Steak: A huge sirloin cut, breaded and then deep fried to a crisp. My friends ordered this (I failed to snap a pic) and they wiped their plates clean. The meat was tender, sealing in the juices. A bargain at less than 400 bucks, and a good choice if one wants to experience a different kind of steak cooking. 3. Perfect ending waffle: One of the best waffles I've ever had. Soft and fluffy with crisp edges, the drizzle of maple syrup is mildly cloying. Topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, ending the meal was indeed perfect. 4. Red velvet brownie: Also a good meal ender, the brownie was smooth and moist, its sweetness not overwhelming.Lows:1. Crispy pork belly: Not as crispy as it sounds. The skin was inconsisently so. The meat was tough to chew. Such a pity since it had a good fat to meat ratio and a lighly sweet glaze with hints of saltiness. An idea not well executed.2. Slow cooked bourbon ribs: More like overcooked ribs. The meat was dry and again tough to chew. The bourbon glaze though was sweet and smokey, consistent with true Southern flavors. However, the meat simply failed. The fries it came with though were okay. 3. Bourbon glazed pork belly: Again the meat was tough to chew. Seems like they don't have good quality pork meat here. The skin was inconsistent, crisp on some parts and gritty on the other. South on South failed to impress on what Southern cooking is hinged on - barbecued meat. The pork was simply disappointing. Better take your rib cravings next door (Rib Shack opened their BF branch just on the next corner). However, the waffles are good, as might the Southern Fried Chicken it combos with, which I would go for instead next time. Prices are also somewhat more expensive than the usual ranges in this part of BF, so some people might be put off by it. Nevertheless, it seems the fried items here are the better choices.

Though barely new in bf, South on south proves it's a food place you need to visit. True to their slogan of delivering comfort food it was proven when we tried Bourbon glazed pork belly & country fried steak. It was with big portions definitely good for sharing. Their staff is also very accomodating and prompt they gave straight answers which best suits us. Coz its really a no-no if they're just doing it for a sell out. Which in this case, a big point for south on south. (keep it up!)There is still a lot to try out, but this one is already in my list good food in south. Indeed, living it up to its name.

Ambience: The interior of South on South gives the customers a very hippy vibe. The aura of it is meant for get togethers, mini reunions, BNOs and stuff that involves beer and good food. The area is clean, well ventilated. There are artistic pieces all over it - from the witty quotes written creatively on the wall, the odd displays that really look artsy and the comfort room that is soo clean and has rusty-but-hippy vibe. Basically, the moment I entered the premise, I was impressed.Food: Now, the food is something else. As I open their menu I was quite surprised with the content of it! Their food has alcohol! I know it's not so new, but they modified their own game. They focused on bourbon and all the good stuff. The menu may be limited but It's all new to me and I didn't know what to get since I wanted to try them all! I ended up getting the honey glazed bourbon pork ribs with sticky rice. Fast service! And it was served on a chopping board like platter. I loved my food. Serving size is perfect (not small, not too big! But big!) and the rice was perfectly cooked and everything on the platter was full of flavor! The play of bourbon in my mouth gave me goosebumps! Love!Price! IDC about the price, the food is perfect! And if my memory serves me right, it's not so expensive! Very affordable! The .5 lacking is their room for improvement 😉Recommended by Micka 💯

looking for some ribs and heard about this place through word of mouth. The half rack's good for 2 people but you might need to order some additional sides since the ones included (cucumber salad and fries) is good for 1 person. The interiors are pretty nice though a little more proper lighting could help make the place more pleasing as it's hard to read the menu since the place is quite dim. The servers were attentive and accommodating. The price of the dishes were just right. The ribs were tender and flavorful. I'll definitley try their other dishes next time.
