While I love Japanese food, I shun away from  sushi and sashimi. I went with my website friends to Tempura Japanese Grill for a Katsu treat and it  further piqued my interest. As a website, I'd say that my superb Katsu experience at Tempura Japanese Grill justifies its premium price. I have always wanted to try out eel and it is was yummy. The Deep fried eel with Japanese bread crumbs was really good. The Unagi Katsu is something that melts in the mouth. The breading seems to enhance the flavor. One serving comes with fresh shredded cabbage and teriyaki miso sauce. I also love the Kurobuta of Tempura Japanese Grill because of its thick meat slices. Though deep fried, the breaded pork meat comes out tender. The tonkatsu sauce goes well with the premium pork loin cut which I find lean. Kurobuta is the finest pork in the world mainly due to its softness and rich flavor. It is also known as the Black Berkshire pig. And lastly, I get to taste the Ramen Burger!  It is a must-try! Its homemade beef patty comes with honey-cured bacon, roasted onion, sesame seeds, and garden fresh lettuce. Best of all, it is sandwiched between two pan-fried ramen buns!

If you are looking for good maki that is affordable then this the place to be. The ambiance of the place is calming and relaxing because it is very spacious and wide. I would recommend the uncle sam's maki its similar to a california maki but has toasted sesame seed surrounding it. I also recommend the teriyakidon i don't really remember the name but yeah it also delicious. Must try!

Affordable and good, but I've had better Japanese food. Try the maki, you'll love it. I don't get why they play pop music in this kind of place.

Worst experience ever!!! Rude servers like no other! After a function, they immediately started shuffling back tables by DRAGGING them around, made so much noise that it actually reverberates inside you! Asked them to stop, they didn't. Not even, did they exert any effort to minimize the racket they were making. We wanted to leave right then, canceled the rest of out orders and asked for the bill. We asked for the bill about 4 times with probably 5 mins in between askings, and here Comes the manager and says the POS is not working! Really? Ugh! It's like they were deliberately annoying us to the end!

Since time immemorial, Tempura Japanese Grill used to be the go-to favorite for good Japanese food. In recent years though, it has been overshadowed by more hip and classier restaurants in the genre. Their branch in ATC recently underwent a facelift, including a revamp of the menu. Highs:1. Ebi tempura: The prawn tempura has remained consistent through the years, and expectedly so. The batter is light and just enough to smother the prawns. The prawns are a bit small, but one can opt for the tiger prawns, setting you back a few more bucks. Still, it was juicy, fresh, and plump. Brings back memories of the old Tempura joints. 2. Salmon sashimi salad: Raving about salads is rare, but this one was quite good. Just the right level of spice, with the greens fresh and crisp. The salmon sashimi was fresh but too few. Would have aced it if larger slices were added to the mix. Lows:1. Chicken teriyaki: It lacked that smokey grilled flavor. The sauce was also underwhelming and wanting flavor. The serving size was okay though. 2. Katsudon: Huge serving but the meat quality paled in comparison to the more prominent katsu restaurants. Obviously not their strong suit. 3. California maki: Thin and mushy, this ubiquitous roll failed to impress. 4. Yakisoba: It had a strange sour taste, and lacked that salty kick. 5. Menu change: gone are the grills we were used to. The revamped menu lacks the old time grill favorites, as even the grill tables are gone. It remains to be seen how the new menu will keep Tempura's head above water, as the selections aren't entirely mindblowing. The tempura remains one of the best in the metro, although a handful of other joints are eclipsing their version. Clearly they need to step up their game on the other dishes to lure back their loyal followers.

We tried our luck here at tempura but they have this separate menu for 499 all u can eat dishes and most of it are not available like the feeling that you are craving for tempura and not available its very disappointing, plus if you order like for example the teriyaki chicken its just half of it , grabe sobrang little serving.

For 499... i wouldnt say its worth it in terms of their food choices... quality and quantity wise.. service was so so.. to be honest.. i think 399p would be a very good deal overall for this food place..

terrible service. food takes forever to arrive. everything you'd wanna order is not available. bad refrigerated food - they even serve it to you not properly REHEATED and FROZEN in the inside. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COST!

This restaurant is constantly changing. In the past so many years that I've seen or visited it before or after a movie, the place must have been renovated 3 or 4 times already. Not much seems to have changed though. Gone are the tabletop stoves for grill or hotpot meals but the tables, chairs, and other furnishings still look the same as when it first opened. The walls haven't changed either but this time, the ceiling looks different. Generally the place has become smaller though with former space now taken up by a Korean fusion resto.Thankfully, food quality and taste have not changed a bit. Sashimi and sushi as well as meats, seafoods, and vegetables are always fresh-looking and tasting. Fusion sushi and maki, or what they call Makimono Creations, have been added to the menu like the Volcano Roll, Hawaiian, and Uncle Sam Maki. King-sized prawn Tempura has also been added to the menu. This is interesting but is quite expensive for the quantity, not to mention that regular ebi tempura are not that small (I hope they don't downsize the regular tempura just to close the gap!) All told, lunch or dinner at Tempura Japanese Grill is a welcome treat for the growing Japanese food loving Filipino (and foreign) diners.

Another one of those pre-00's restaurants that thrived before the onslaught of foreign restaurant players. Tempura used to be king with their variety of tempura dishes even coming up with cheese and wasabi coated shrimp tempura. Unfortunately they already pale in comparison to other restaurants that serve the dish even if it is not their specialty. They are now in a smaller space, the ramen is OK but forgetful. The salad is as remembered, so it would still be on our 'to order' list if we visit again. But the tempura although properly coated was bland unless dipped in the tempura sauce. I have to commend the size, it was plump and crisp. We came in 15 minutes before closing and they still maintained good, commendable service. Will visit if on a budget or in the mood for nostalgia.Senior cards honored. Recommended with reservation. For those who knows them, pre-Tenya years.
