We often associate the south as a laidback haven away from the hustle and bustle of the busy city up at the centre of Metro Manila and further north. We also have a notion that southern living is a lot more upscale especially with the numerous country clubs and multimilionnares in this side of the city. This takes us to restaurants like Mati’s Meat and Bread which emulate this upscale but not gaudy yet cosy vibe. Their first branch is located in Festival Mall’s River Park side along the beautiful manmade rive and park along the mall’s outskirts. The space feels very spacious and airy thanks to the tall ceilings and the glass walls that provides a nice view of the manmade lake and allows natural light to illuminate the space. I really liked the cross between modern sensibilities and old world charms in the way the space is decorates and also a staircase that leads to the kitchen upstairs is quite interesting as well. Mati’s Bread and Bowl has a nice and concise menu containing classic western favorites at quite an affordable price point as well as beer and wine. The owners were gracious enough to invite me an several other foodies in partnership with website to give their best sellers a try. Here’s the rundown:Oyster Rockefeller (P520): Minutes after we arrived, we were already greeted with plate filled with Oysters with melted cheese. The oysters tasted really fresh as it slid into your mouth like a jellyace from the sea while the melted cheese added a nice crispy layer of savory and creamy goodness which perfectly complimented the oysters.Salad: Mati’s salad was composed of cabbage, lettuce, spinach as well as mangoes and cherry tomatoes in an oriental orange-y dressing. I liked the freshness of the vegetables and fruit as well as the sweet and savoury dressing. I particularly liked the addition of spinach which was a nice change from the usual “lettuce overload” saladsPizza: Mati’s also serves freshly baked thin-cut, flat bread style pizza that are topped with classic toppings like Pepperoni as well as unique ones like Salpicao. My favourite pizza was the Tali’s Gamibretti (P400) which was a shrimp, anchovy, and garlic pizza. The flavour of the pizza itself was a like a dance between a savory, seafood base and cheesy and garlicky on top. For those who want something a little more unique they also have a Salpicao pizza (P420). The pizza taste like a cross between salpacao and sisig and had a strong meaty flavour with a topped generously with cheese. This pizza is perfect with lots of hot sauce or pepperflakes. They also have a Pepperoni Pizza (P360) which is loaded with lots of pepperoni slices, onions, and bellpeppers. Although they were all delicious in their own way, I felt like the crust was too thin that it almost felt like just like a crusty shell instead of a nice and chewy flatbread.Steak: The main event was a nice cut of locally sourced Wagyu sirloin steak. Visually, the steak was picture perfect especially with those diamond patterned grill marks. It was certainly as good as it looked as the steak was cooked to a nice medium rare giving it a nice pink centre, this allowed the steak to be remain tender as it slowly melts into your mouth and a release a subtle, beef flavour. They also had a nice and chunky Seafood Pasta (P360) and a creamy Strawberry Shake (P18)Overall, Mati’s offers delicious comfort food and hearty meals that can compete with fine dining restaurants without making much of dent on your pocket. Their big ticket items in particular like the Oyster Rockefeller and the Steak were absolutely delicious but absolutely affordable. Their servers are polite and quick to answer your request and they have facilities like bathrooms and Wifi. This place is beyond perfect for a nice weekend family lunch or a romantic evening date where you can have good food and a serene view of the lake.

Their food is phenomenal! I love the rib eye steak! I'll surely come back there again. But I think you need to train your staff about the foods you served, so when your guests are asking, they know what to say.

Matis is located at the outdoor area of Festival Mall in Filinvest in Alabang - they have a varied menu of comfort food and drinks. The first thing i noticed when i walked in was how bright and homey the place is. Our group was greeted with a nice plate of baked fresh oysters and wine. I liked the way the subtle flavour of the oysters were enhanced by the cheese. Their flatbread pizza are also worth trying if you come here. The base was perfectly baked, and topped with nice balanced ingredients like beef, shrimp, and even anchovy. The steak was very tender and seasoned perfectly. I really enjoyed it with the garlic rice. Other noteworthy items were the seafood pasta and fruit shakes.Overall, Matis is worth the drive over not only for the ambiance, but also for their hearty and delicious food.

I will never forget the Truffled Bone Marrow dish that I have tried from my first ever visit to Mati’s Meat and Bread. So sad that they no longer serve this dish huhu! But anyway, what ‘s more important is that Mati’s is still the same restaurant that I have loved and will love for years. It is located at the River Park side of Festivall Mall in Alabang where you get to enjoy the nice view of a man-made river  while having a glass of your favorite wine over their pizzas and steaks.

Overpriced. Ordered the classic ribeye (cooked medium) and they gave me steak that was cut thinner than bacon (and cooked well done). Not what I expected for 780php. Good thing they replaced with a slightly thicker steak when I gave feedback. Still just ok though. Not worth the price.

Great ambiance, very serene and homey! I love that our table is overlooking the river park. The place is clean and spacious with a laid back southern vibe. The food is superb! We had Balut Aligue for appetizer. The Aligue was so unbelievably good that we had to order Focaccia bread to match it. Nanay loved their Seafood Pasta. Me and baby are both steak lovers so we can't resist their classic rib eye steak. It was so good it melts in your mouth. The steak was juicy and flavorful that I just used my gravy for my mashed potatoes. Mango Panna Cotta for dessert was the perfect ending for our lunch date. Overall I loved our experience. I would definitely recommend this place and will definitely come back to try their other offerings.

We had the Angus Beef Burger, Fish and Chips, and Seafood Pasta. The burger was very juicy, and the bread was very soft. I guess the Angus Beef made all the difference. The Seafood Pasta was also equally delicious. A little pricey, but worth it once in a while.

I love a good steak, and Mati's Meat and Bread offers a wide variety of food and drink along with its steaks to satisfy visitors to the Alabang area. Here are some of the dishes I got to try during my visit there:Salpicao Pizza, Pepperoni Pizza, and Jalapestroni PizzaAll three of these pizzas are served on rectangular flatbreads. The Salpicao pizza consists of ground beef that goes well with the thick layer of cheese on the top. The Pepperoni pizza also has onions, red bell peppers, and mushrooms provide more textures for guests to enjoy with each bite. And the Jalapestroni pizza has shrimp, herbs, and sliced jalapeño on top to provide a great mix of spicy and savory. Each of these pizzas come with chili flakes for those who want a stronger kick with their pizza. Puttanesca PastaThis pasta is one of their newer offerings, with the tomato sauce, Parmesan cheese, olives, and herbs evoking ancient memories in me. I recommend this dish just for its power to let me relive these memories. Wagyu RibeyeThis is Mati's signature dish, with a thick and tender slab of meat cooked to a nice gray on the outside and a vibrant red on the inside. Juices flow each time I prick the meat with a fork, and the aroma wafts to my nostrils with every bite. It comes on a sizzling plate with vegetables and garlic rice. While the dish also comes with a sauce, I prefer to eat the ribeye on its own. And the great thing is that it can stand on its own, and that for me is the mark of a good ribeye.

Mati's is located at the River Park side of Festival Mall, Alabang. It is outside the mall and finding it can be a little frustrating if you are not familiar with the area. If you are coming from inside the mall, just ask the conceirge for detailed instructions on how to get to River Park. Once there, Mati's is housed along side other dining restaurants along (what else) a river. Mati's has a good view of the river and their interiors gives that cool, rustic, outside feel without the dreaded Manila heat. They have a huge floor area and high ceilings but the airconditioning is equipped enough to cool the space which is a great plus!I was able to taste the following during our afternoon meet up:Salpicao Pizza - more like a flatbread. They advertise this as 'extremely thin pizza' which is true! It is almost paper thin and one cannot distinguish where the thin line between topping and crust, begins and ends! My Mom would approve of this because she is a fan of thin crust pizzas. The salpicao is soft and garlicky. And the cheese is very generous. Nicely flavored pizza/flatbread. I wasn't able to taste the other two pizzas though.Classic Rib Eye - done medium rare, this came with a steak sauce which tasted like 'tempura' sauce. Others did not approve but I kind of liked the combination. It was distracting at first because it reminded me of 'ebi tempura' but once added with the 'steak rice' it was such a salty sweet combination. I liked it. The steak was soft and tender, good even without the sauce.Oyster Rockefeller - 6 pcs of oysters topped with cheese. Soft and cheesy good. Priced at 500plus pesos this is quite an indulgence.Seafood Pasta - tomato stewed goodness. Just the way I like it.Service was quick as expected. They were all hands in helping out. The CR was pristine and clean which is a plus on my book. Recommended.Disclaimer: Sponsored dining by Mati's.
