A few days ago, me and some of my college barkada met up at Marikina for a foodtrip in Lilac Street. I suggested to try the newly opened Tokyo Tempura in Rainbow St to try their UNLIMITED TEMPURA for Php199 only! Going to the place isn’t that hard. Just ride a jeep/fx with asignage of SSS and asked to be dropped off at Lilac St. Walk straight until you find China Bank beside the public school. The street right there is Rainbow St and you have to walk to be able to see Tokyo Tempura (if you’re familiar with Some Kind of Wonderful, they’re on the same street). We went around 7pm but the place was full. We were asked if we’re willing to wait since they can’t put more seats outside due to the bad weather. The guy who was in charge of the place (I think) said that place is always fullespecially around that time. Good thing after around 10-15 minutes, we were able to seat inside. This small place has a lot of vintage designs that maybe contrast to Japanese foods they serve. They can also accommodate maybe 20-25 people with electric fans inside. Seeing the menu made us think to try their Unlimited Tempura. Unlimited tempura is so tempting pricing  for Php199 only. But they have Biggu Tempura Meal (9pcs) for Php 105. I don’t think I’ll be able to finish 9 pcs of tempura, what more if we ordered the unlimited ones.So here’s what most of us ordered:Biggu Tempura (9pcs) Php105 + rice Php20Kani Tempura Php45Chili cheese Tempura (Php49)(No individual photos since I was so focused on eating and being with my friends that time. Haha) The shrimp tempura was delish but since we’re eating 9pcs of tempura, somewhere in between, there is an “umay” factor afterwards. Good thing we also ordered Kani and Chili Cheese Tempura for a different taste. There are also wide variety of drinks offered, but I ordered Coke Vanilla.Overall, I think this is a good place to dine if you are willing to try an unlimited tempura for more than 9pcs (Goodluck to your

How often do you eat tempura? More specifically, how often do you eat ebi (shrimp) tempura? It is one of my most favorite Japanese dishes of all time! I usually load my plate with lots of tempura pieces whenever I’m at a buffet restaurant, and I don’t often use any sauce when eating them. I like savoring the simple yet delectable shrimp meat that goes well with the crunch of the tempura batter. However, dining at buffets can be quite expensive, so imagine my joy when I discovered Tokyo Tempura! They don’t just serve tempura, mind you…they have UNLIMITED shrimp tempura!!! AHHHH TAKE MY MONEY!!!!The place, at first glance, seems confusing: half of the dining area has a Japanese theme, but the other half is adorned with American accent pieces and other vintage stuff, which is pretty cool actually! Now, let’s get to business. My friend PJ and I both decided to go for their unlimited tempura, which costs only P199! The initial serving has 8 pieces and comes with one order of rice. If you want more, it will cost you just P20 for one order and P40 for unlimited rice. Succeeding tempura requests will range from 3-5 pieces, so nothing will go to waste. Everything is freshly fried, so you won’t worry about receiving below par tempura.I love the fact that the batter is just light and doesn’t overpower the shrimp. The combined textures of the crunchy batter and soft shrimp are simply a match made in gastronomic heaven! It felt so good to eat each piece that I abandoned my spoon and fork and opted to eat with my hands, which I rarely do (I am one of the very few people I know who can de-shell shrimps with a spoon & fork). Another thing that surprised me is their dipping sauce! It’s really good that I found myself asking for more! PJ and I ate 23 pieces each, which is roughly around P8.65 per piece! What is sulit?!Oh, they also have other tempura dishes like kani (crab), squid, chili cheese, etc.

Our episode on Tokyo Tempura:tinyurl.com/ShetSarapS02E03The restaurant, a small, non-airconditioned space, feels a little American because of the design on the walls -- signs of different softdrinks, Star Wars actions figures, and whatnot. The food was fine. The tempura seems like lutong-bahay, which is not bad, but can be improved a little. The shrimp tempura being unlimited for only two hundred pesos was solid. The breading didn't overpower the shrimp, and the sauce complemented the tempura well [at first, but it kinda changed towards the middle of our stay. It wasn't as sweet as the first serving of sauce].It could be better if they offered more varieties of tempuras in their two hundred peso unlimited tempura USP. But what the restaurant has now is already great on its own.

P199 eat all you can Tempura!!! what can you say about that. Tip 1: you have to go there early to get a nice seat.Tip 2: if you are a hardcore starwars fan, check their collection of toys and memorabilias in the 3/F and i think the toys are also being sold.

It's an "eat all you can" tempura street food resto located at rainbow street adjacent to lilac. A small resto catering to 10-15 seater when you eat inside. The main dish is freshly cooked and served. Few viands are available on the menu. The only thing i didn't like is the cold japanese rice which I think was cooked hours before i ordered. It's an open resto which has no aircondition facilities. Its best to dine at night rather than lunch time. Parking is available on the sidestreets.
