Probably one of the restaurants I am not too keen in suggesting. For me they're just over priced run of the mill type of Japanese sit down restaurant. I think I was able to eat in different branches in hopes of changing my opinion but have not been successful so far.

Sumo Sam was one of my go-to Japanese restaurant before they changed how they cook. The rolls are too heavy and a meal itself, for me, it's supposed to be an appetizer, light and refreshing. Price is expensive and not "sulit".Would return only because of their "Spicy Tuna Salad" and would probably order it for to-go.

Late lunch date with the sister here. On the tableRock Shrimp Tempura - spice level was manageable. Crunchy, Nothing special. Sumo Sam Roll - too big to handle. I laughed at my sister when she place the whole roll in her mouth (minus the toppings). I tried to bite it pero sumabog!!! So you really have to eat the whole thing (well the rice part) at once then put in the crunchy tempura bits and the fish little by little. I think the roll had crabstick and mangoes too. It tasted really good but our jaws were ngawit from all that chewing hahahaWhat we thought was a light lunch ended up being a very heavy meal.

So I gave this restaurant a bad review in another social media platform but a few hours later I find myself in the ER after eating here. This place doesn't even deserve a rating of 1 in my opinion.

I've met Marvin Agustin years ago on a brokerage transaction. Am glad he has successfully staged a series of restaurants with Sumo Sam his pioneering gem. On a quick lunch meeting we truly enjoyed our Salmon Steak with Fried rice, Chicken Teriyaki and customized Yasai Itame. Somehow it's adjusted to A Filipino palette. For a bill of less than a Php 1,000, I know we made a right pick. Hey, the Salmon is fresh and maybe you can go back for a fresh visit?

I rate this as a 3.5 because I appreciate the fact that they are trying to present Japanese food in a unique way. However, their "trying" is what kept their score low for me because I think they are trying too hard. Their presentation is great. I got excited when the food is presented to me. But bottom line, it is just the same Japanese food presented in a different way and probably with a different name.

"When a restaurant is packed with people, doesn't mean the food is good."Altho I'm not saying Sumo Sama doesn't taste good, it just felt like an average one. Everything on the menu's overpriced + they have so little serving. Just wow. Also, I find most of their food ordinary in taste. Some may stood out but mostly, plain ordinary.

The food was delicous and the service was good as well. I loved their gyoza and salmon sashimi. The waiters were attentive to our every need. Will definitely come back.

To cap off the year, my former officemates an I decided to have a thanksgiving dinner at Megamall. We wanted to try Vikings but unfortunately, the line was so long and its getting late already so we decided to move to Sumo Sam. Not a first timer, I was excited to get my favorites from their menu. Located at the Lower Ground Floor of SM Megamall, you can immediately see it from the escalator. When we got to the place, it was big enough to accommodate atleast 30 diners. We're seated at the area outside the restaurant, the area where we're seated was very busy. We asked for the menu and deliberated what to eat. Here's what we ordered:Tuna Sashimi - my officemates love raw fish! and as for me, I'm not a fan of it, yet I decided to take my own piece. The thing about it is that, you can feel the freshness of the fish, it was tasty with the soy sauce and wasabi. What I noticed with their version is how big the cut was. It was a bit bigger than the usual slice. Spicy Caravan - my all time favorite! I love the kick of spice in every bite. The sashimi slice was very fresh, the shrimp cut was very tasty, the rice was sticky enough to keep the dish intact. Beef Gyudon - my officemate ordered this dish. She was shocked how big the rice bowl was. She wanted the beef to be cooked a little bit more. The taste was good that she was able to taste the sauce of the beef in every bite. Katsudon - big rice bowl good for sharing. The slice of the pork was really big! I ordered the pork tenderloin and really love how tender the pork was. Ramen - I love their version of Ramen, it was not spicy which I really wanted. The noodles was soft, it was tasty with the pork, corn and egg in it. I love the broth used for the soup. I've been to many Sumo Sam branches and still love their food. The staffs were a little bit lost, we asked for utensils and yet it will come after so many minutes. They accommmodated us nicely, Shell out cash is around P500-P1000 for single person.

He said it's good. Unlike the other katsudon he tried. I ordered Ramen, it's not bad also but i want it to be more spicy since i more on spicy food.
