Sumo Sam is one of the best restaurants that offers authentic Japanese food in the Philippines before other major restaurants arrived at the Metro. Below are our experienced, dining with them. Here’s what we ordered:TUNA SHASHIMI – Very fresh tuna sashimi, if I didn’t know what I’m eating, I will not exactly know that I’m eating a raw fish, it tastes like milk.CALIFORNIA MAKI SALAD – Fresh and refreshing, worth every bite.MUSHROOM AND BACON – Best with their fried rice, I might say 😛AGEDASHI TOFU – This tofu really surprised me. I’ve tried several Japanese restaurants enough and this one really amazed me. It is very tasty compared to others.JAPANESE FRIED RICE – Their fried rice is complete, no need to add more condiments to make it tastier. It’s perfect, already.Overall experience: We do enjoy our food, but I guess that the stuff isn’t that much efficient, we have to make a lot of follow-ups on our order, the place is good, looks clean, I will still go back because of the food.

My friends and I wanted some Japanese fix. I haven’t tried Sumo Sam. I liked their grilled salmon and we weren’t able to take the other food we ordered. All were good and service was ok.

This place needs major improvements with both food and service. They’re staff doesn’t seem to know how to properly talk to their guests, cause most of the time they don’t respond, the customer interaction was really a turn off. We ordered tuna sashimi and it was really pale, i actually thought it was hamachi at first. We just canceled it. The only good thing i had was the katsudon, seasoned and cooked well, very flavorful. this is very far from they're Rockwell branch.

When we are at shang, my family and I dine here. The food is good but the serving time takes a toll on us. The oyakodon, tempura, and katsudon porkloin are our favorites here. Plus, this chashu ramen tasted good too.
