Firehouse was a spur of the minute lunch option my husband and I decided upon a few weeks ago. Being Australian, meatloaf was one of his mum’s staples and as soon as he saw the 50/50 Meatloaf and Mash dish, he was sold. He considers himself a little bit of a connoisseur of meatloaf and Firehouse didn’t disappoint. Two lovely thick slices of juicy meatloaf with a side of garlic mash and gravy appeared much to his delight. And he dutifully devoured every single morcel. His comment as he finished the last mouthful. And I also enjoyed their healthy grilled halibut. Outstanding! 4.5/5 on the website scale.

We have been meaning to return, which gives away the conclusion that we enjoyed our dinner here, but Megamall is a tiresome drive from Marikina. It was one of those dinners where I took to website for suggestions and narrowed it to a few. But by dinner time we were all famished after window shopping at Crate and Barrel (before finally settling on buying that heavy cast iron pan - bigger/wider than the one Rapunzel carried with her) so it was decided according to proximity.Place was a little cramped but when your stomach is growling embarrassingly you do not have the time to complain. We had the Truffled Potato Chips as a starter. And even if it smelled of blue cheese more than the truffle (daughter hates blue cheese and smell did nothing to help), we wolfed it down in a matter of a few minutes. Yes, even the picky eater enjoyed it with the stinky cheese. We liked it not because we were hungry, but because it was good. A different take on the fried spud, it was cut thin, fried to a golden crisp and doused with that smelly, yet irresistible, dressing.Next came the heavier offerings such as the Double Cut Pork Chop, the 50/50 Meatloaf and the Buttermilk Fried Chicken Fingers. I had a small piece of the porkchop. It was tender, smoky, still juicy and it came with plenty of roasted veggies as if to appease the guilt brought about by consuming quite a huge chunk of meat. The meatloaf paled in comparison with the presentation but it was filling, considering it consisted of two thick slices of ground meat, bacon and angus beef, no less plus a side of mashed potatoes. But the winner, IMHO, had to be the chicken fingers. Seasoned and crisp breading on the outside, juicy chicken meat on the inside. And not to forget about those cornbread doughnuts that made this dish really best for sharing. It was pricey, but two people (very hungry people at that) can happily share this.Since we had the Princess along, we need to order dessert. It had to be the Sticky Banana Fig Pudding. It came with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. So sticky pudding plus ice cream equal/s an empty plate. My family, we love our desserts.Since there were just the three of us, and I was guilty of ordering too much again, we had most of the chicken fingers for take out. It still was good even after a few hours.Service was prompt, place was a bit cramped. Again, a little pricey than most but servings can be shared by two. Or three on a diet. Just kidding. Oh. And I totally forgot what we ordered for drinks. I may, or may have not, ordered the Tamarind Margarita. I was that hungry.

Got delivery from here via website. Chophouse salad was very good. Beef Brisket platter was as good as ever. This is the best value beef dish. Very succulent and tasty. Buttermilk Fried Chicken was good

Note: Late ReviewFireside by Kettle. Saw a couple of good reviews about this joint. After the mini shock from the flat white at Satchmi, we decided to have dinner at Kettle. Chips. Laced with Blue Cheese and Truffle Oil. The best potato chips I've ever eaten in my brief existence in this universe. The marriage of truffle oil and blue cheese is a match made in heaven. Subtle cheese flavor, earthy truffle flavor and crispy chips. I have a sudden affinity with blue. Buttermilk Fried Chicken. Crispy on each bite. The meat is cooked to perfection, juicy not dry. I'm guessing this is how they do chicken in the South. The serving is huge, good for two to three people. Best paired with the corn muffins, skip the rice. I like how they do their tables. The cutlery is strategically wrapped in hand towels, very hygenic. Not like the other joints wherein they leave it out in the open, susceptible to dust and other elements. First try at Kettle is a success, we enjoyed the food. Service is fast as well. I am coming back for more chips and chicken.

I honestly prefer this place better than kettle. I used to love kettle's chicken but the chicken fingers was just the better way of eating it! Keeps the chicken juicy. The cornbread balls are delightful. Tried the meatloaf and wow it's bacon explosion in your mouth! Didn't really enjoy the porkchops, found it to thick so it's a little dry already. Big fan of the donut holes for dessert. Oh and for starters, I recommend the potato chips with blue chips!!
