Finally, my dream German restaurant is just around the corner!Located at Shangri-La Plaza Ortigas Mandaluyong City, this place was conveniently placed close within Ortigas' busy center. I've rooted for quite a while to find this legit German restaurant and this it just hit the spot.Considered as one of the top watering holes, I'm not confused why. I already went in this place twice, once alone, and second with my Boss again and her husband (lol, the usual Trio food trippers).Anyway on my first visit I ordered their plate of sausages, three pieces breaded camembert, a free order of their soup of the day, German breads, a tall glass of Paulaner Weissbeir and an Apple Strudel. I was glad they complied with my request of having the Apple Strudel served with a good dollop of whipped cream instead of vanilla ice cream. The sausages where great. Three types of sauces are given, which varied from something zesty, spicy and quite tasty. I love the spicy one. The camembert was quite weird, but it is given since it is a cheese (am I allowed to say that? Don't kill me please cheese lovers). Deep frying it while being breaded was interesting. Be careful when biting through it though, it oozes with melted goody but the cheesy taste is quite overpowering. Don't forget to dip it with the cranberry sauce since the sweetness  will help balance that cheesy goodness.I have to be honest though, maybe I'm just not good at eating it but there's no way that there's a "right way" of eating a German Bread. I'm surmising it was some type of Roggenbrot or Vollkornbrot. It was dry as heck. How am I suppose to slather that butter if the bread cools down so quickly that it gotten stale so rapidly too? I endured biting off of that stone-like bread slices so that it didn't go to waste. Partnering it with the soup of the day didn't help. I guess I bruised my mouth from eating that bread. I'm also a bit disappointed by their Apple Strudel. Not the taste I was really expecting. The reason this dessert is quite the main highlight for me was because of Quentin Tarantino's Inglorious Basterds. When Hans Landa munch through that flaky, creamy, appetizing masterpiece of a pastry (the scene was a masterpiece, IMO, too by the way if you've seen the movie), I quickly listed it in my bucket list to find a similar creation. This one didn't fare well to me. I'm quite annoyed actually of the raisins. I do not actually hate them, but I find them "distracting", always putting that melodic tune of good food out of rhythm. Finally the beer. I can't stress enough. Their draft beers are legit. I'm not that well-versed with German beers but I know what great beer tastes. I got introduced to the Paulaner Weissbier, a good starting point I guess. I really loved it.On our second visit, we ordered finally their famous Pork Knuckle, Fried Platter, two different draft beers (I opted for Sternweisser Weissbier while my Boss and her husband tried the Kellerbier Anno 1417), two servings of Pilaf Rices (which I find pretty expensive by the way) and a Blitz Torte to finish things off. The Pork Knuckle wasn't exactly a let down but I guess I'm not that used to German spices that when I bit into it our own Filipino version of Crispy Pata immediately flooded my mind. My Boss and her husband agreed that the latter was a whole lot better. Not a total let down but considering they boasted so much of this dish that we expected something to blew our mind. It was served with variants of lettuce and veggies and some helping of sour, potato salad. The fried platter was really good! I really loved the fried chicken strips and shrimps. Their sauces help you enjoy the food way better. Couple it with a gulp of their draft beers? Superbly approving! Their Blitz Torte was quite okay. For me it's like a regular layered cake but honestly it was a little better than the Apple Strudel, which I was expecting to be their best dessert but nah. What I'm more impressed really though is their service. Although I think the ambiance kind of get in the way. The place is a little big so there will be times that even the staff is walking around they might miss seeing you.Overall Brotzeit is a good spot to have that lazy, hazy night of eating greasy food and drowning legit draft beers. I'll be coming back for more of their beers though. Loved them truly.

What we had:Pork Cheese SausagePork MedallionsChicken BreastWhat we loved:Great place, great people! We visited while they are under renovation and the staff was always making sure that we are comfortable. It was a rainy night and the place is packed but the staff were very attentive. I loved everything that came to our table as well, but the pork sausages stood out.

A great place for a night out with friends! Their platters coupled with the 2+2 promo on drinks makes it the perfect place to chill for a night out.

I like their desserts. It is not too sweet. Leaves you wanting for more. Service is good and the price for the serving size is good. I would go back and try other fare on the menu

Poor service, I hope they can be more attentive since this place doesn’t really get full. We went here on a weeknight and there were a lot of empty seats but our drinks arrived so late. Tried to avoid going here after a similar experience in the past but I reconsidered because of the ZG drinks promo but apparently some things never change. Too bad. Good place for foreigners who want a beer garden feeling but it’s a pass for me.

Even though you stay outside (tent) because of the renovation, you can really enjoy the food and especially the beers. Prices are reasonable. Food is delicious. Beers are really good.
