My food run last Saturday ended at Sugarhouse where, together with my website buddies, I was able to sample luscious cakes and desserts. Notable among these were:- the cheese-topped French apple pie with a side of cream - I love how the cinnamon and apple flavors are complemented by the cheese- the honey cake - I love how the light vanilla chiffon cake and buttercream icing are punctuated by the honeycrunch sprinkled all throughout- Dulce de Leche - I love how the caramel filling blends with the whipped cream and vanilla chiffon cakeSugarhouse definitely gave me a sugar high.

33 years of providing sugar to our daily lives. Sugar House has been long enough to understand the needs and wants of every Filipino. They boasts on making people feel happy and alive with their wonderful cakes and pastries. An opportunity to visit Sugar House happened at a website Food Run. We were fortunate to be able to try different kinds of cakes and delicacies. Among the samplers, I like the Honey Cake best. It is slightly sweet and has a good crunchy exterior. The turtle pie is also a good choice with its nuttiness, but it was too sweet for me.Another thing I like is the chocolate profiteroles (cream puff). The custard inside is creamy and generous. The chocolate on top was a bit burnt though. Iced Mocha is an energy booster. Flavor is good but too sweet for me as well.If you need a sugar rush, this is the definite place to go. They also offer rice meals and pasta.

4rd Stop: website Food Run - SugarhouseI've been coming here for years and I've never had a bad coffee, bad service, or bad pastry. My last visit was no exception. Located on the second floor of the Glorietta 3 Mall, this store front is the perfect place to get some good breakfast/lunch or coffee and pastries. This shop has very limited seating so if you are looking to sit down and munch, be on the look out for seats. No matter what day or time, they always have customers in and out. We were served their best-selling cakes, coffee, and other sweet treats. I was particularly impressed with the Honey Cake. I love sweets that aren't too sweet. You know the type that you're able to eat the whole thing and not put it to the side after one bite. That's Sugarhouse's Honey Cake. Crunchy on the outside with a nice, light creamy filling which was just sweet enough so that it didn't overwhelm my tastebuds. Whether you want a quick bite to eat or sit and enjoy a hot beverage and pastry, go check out Sugarhouse. On our second website Citibank food crawl, we had a ton of desserts from cake haven, Sugarhouse, in Glorietta, Makati. Inspite of the rising competition between new and old cake shops, Sugarhouse continues to serve and produce their classic creations. My favorite from them, which I would often have since I was young, was their Concorde cake. This one is definitely a masterpiece with its unique presentation. It was all covered up in meringue sticks, and underneath it is a very light chiffon vanilla cake, with hints of chocolate.Another thing that I like from Sugarhouse is their apple pie with cheese. It is of thin crust and has big apple chunks in it. The pie isn't that too sweet, and what makes it even better is the presence of cheese in it. If you feel like you want an extra saltiness to it, sprinkle it with more cheese then. Also, don't miss out on Sugarhouse's "Triple X." It was called such because it boasts of chocolatey goodness in three layers. This cake has choco mousse, choco ganache, and cream cheese filling in it.There's just more in store at Sugarhouse, but it's good enough that I didn't get to try out a lot of their cakes, so that I have a good reason to be back there soon.

I've never been to Sugarhouse before, so imagine my surprise when I found out that they've actually been around since 1983! It just goes to show how much people like their products - enough for them to still be open after 33 years! I mean, Sugarhouse is even older than I am!They had us try their numerous pastry selections - from cakes to silvanas to yema balls. It was like we were in dessert heaven! They started us off with the Marjolaine (P1,300). It's a lighter, chocolate version of the sans rival. Each of the four layers of meringue is brushed with chocolate then held together with whipped cream, topped with more chocolate and garnished with chopped cashew.Next, we had with the Honey Cake (P800), which is vanilla chiffon filled with light butter cream then abundantly sprinkled with honey crunch. It was most definitely my favorite out of all the cakes we got to try that night. The Concorde (P695) consists of three layers of vanilla chiffon filled with light othello chocolate mousse playfully covered with chocolate meringue sticks. It's a combination of different textures that's definitely a favorite among kids and kids at heart! For chocolate lovers, this Chocolate Truffle (P850) is for you. It is THE ultimate chocolate experience - chocolate chiffon cake filled and iced with chocolate butter cream with a slight tinge of coffee. It is Sugarhouse's number 1 best-selling cake, so you can't go wrong with it!My other favorite would be their Almond Sans Rival (P950) It's crunchy on the outside and chewy in the middle! Filled with delicious layers of cashew meringue and butter cream topped generously with sliced almonds, it's definitely heaven in every bite.
