Koku is a name that may not immediately ring a bell even among many Makati restaurant habitués. But for those who have already discovered this little Japanese restaurant along Valero Street in Salcedo Village, Makati City, Koku is a name that is synonymous to first rate Japanese food. A testament to that is Koku’s numerous five star ratings in popular food and restaurant directory, website.

We chose this restaurant using website as a reference. What we ordered:1. Crispy Salmon Skin Maki-this is the best on the list. Raw salmon on top, crispy Salmon Skin on the inside.2. Beef Yakiniku Don-this bowl is also very good, best Yakiniku Don I tasted so far.3. Grilled salmon-basic one but serving size is terribly small. They should have included more sides.4. Pork Curry-Nothing special. I tasted better.5. UdonI can't remember the exact name, but the taste is unforgettable!Good service

Taste and quality of food was amazed me. Waitress make me so comfortable before and while eating. But, the price is different from the website menu picture. I ordered spicy tuna salad and mixed sushi and it was 927pesos(My estimate price was 298+488=786 +12%tax=880). But still worth it.Good to date or having business talk.

Great flavors, everything we ordered was seasoned right. Must try their cheese korokke, seafood chahan and ebi tempura.

This place is a gem! It was recommended by a friend. The maki and salad were excellent. Would go back again.

Looks authentic Japanese, with all the bamboo aesthetic. Food still has room for improvement. We did love the tempura bowl because of the large shrimps used. The tonkatsu also was good. The teriyaki rice bowls need more flavor.

I enjoyed my dinner at Koku. I love curry so I was already expecting their Katsu Curry to be good. The potatoes and carrots were also easy to bite into. My friend ordered the Japanese Carbonara which was also good. I wish they serve a bigger portion of it! I think I'll order one for myself the next time.We also ordered 3 kinds of maki: Crispy Salmon Skin, Salmon and Cream Cheese, and Geisha Maki. The Crispy Salmon Skin would have to be my favorite 😋Additional Review:I was excited to eat here for lunch since I enjoyed eating here the first time, but that would be the last time I would be eating here during break time.I was given a seat but no one even thought of giving me the menu until I had to ask for it twice. Waiting time was the worst. I had to wait 30 minutes for a bowl of Gyudon which I didn't even enjoy. I asked for a spoon only for the lady to say "ok" and then proceed to guarding the door to wait for new customers. I had to ask it from a different waiter after realizing that the first one didn't have any plans on giving it to me. It was a surprise that I didn't even have to wait 2 minutes for my bill. So disappointed.

KOKUValero MakatiA cozy Japanese restaurant that could serve almost 20 - 30 persons. No parking but you can find parking slots beside the streets of Valero.Servers are very accommodating, even if there are a lot of customers, once we are seated, they already gave the menu and served water and service iced tea. (Don't expect too much for the service iced tea, literally its tea with ice and no sugar, which is good)Serving time 10 - 15 mins.Ordered the following:House Salad 3.5/5Greens and tomatoes with shredded crispy something on it plus sesame sauce, which tasted like kewpie sesame seed dressing.California Maki 4/5May be good for 2-3 persons , the usual taste of California Maki it is, but serving size is a little bigger than other restaurants. This is not for small mouths haha!Tonkatsu Ramen 4/5Could be good for 2 persons, broth is savory and for me the flavors are just balanced. Pork is so tender and noodles are done well. The pork fat done chicharon way makes it a little bit special haha. CHICHARON IS LIFE!Salmon Bento 3.5/5Salmon is good, Spicy Tuna with shredded cabbage is refreshing, stir fried veggies is a little bit salty but ok if eaten with rice.

Not your typical sushi place. The interior is a contemporary eastern restaurant with obvious influence of the west.I ordered gyoza and mushashi maki. The gyoza is surprises you with the zesty flavor of ginger which compliments the sauce. It's a bit too salty compared to the other gyozas I've tried before but the gyoza here can compete with the gyozas other restaurants have to offer. The mushashi maki hit me with a surprise. This maki is flavorful! I am at loss for words on how to describe this food so I'll just let the picture do the talking.
