Not a fan of ABV's cocktails or their craft beers. Their cheeseburgers and dogs are okay, but I'd rather have 8cuts or The Beef for burgers and Wicked Dogs for really good Hotdogs! Their food prices are quite reasonable but their drinks are seriously expensive! And what's with just serving craft beers?? Seriously? I guess website was paid really good to feature you guys as the top bar in Makati. Won't be getting advise from website again, that's for sure. Am pretty sure, everyone that's been here - was just to say that they've been here and that's all... Speakeasy my foot!

It must have been a very hectic Saturday evening for our bartenders during the first and only time I visited. The place has a great atmosphere, but a little too loud for my speakeasy expectations. It took us quite a while to give our orders, considering we were seated right at the bar. When it finally came to preparing our drinks, I was a bit horrified on how quickly they mixed it up (TGIF style). I guess I've gotten used to other speakeasies where the drinks are more carefully prepared and meticulously presented. Unfortunately, the cocktails themselves were underwhelming, considering the price. My date and I only stayed long enough to finish one drink each and left promptly after and have never gone back since.I'll definitely return to Lazy Bastard though.

Those who know me well, know that I am big big fan of the 1920s era. Name it, Great Gatsby, Boardwalk Empire, The Godfather, Gangsters of New York, Public Enemies - I've watched it. I also love anything Art Deco or Art Noveau. I listen to Eddie Cantor, Bessie Smith and Mamie Smith once in a while too... yeah "The Crazy Blues", "Life's a Funny Proposition" and "Some of These Days" are some of my favorites. And oh the Roaring 20s and Flapper girl fashion, I'm in love with them!

Manila is slowly becoming a carne-loving town. The city is thick with barbecue joints, burger shacks, and an array of butcher shops. What I have found out in the last three years I have been doing food writing is Filipinos gradually welcoming the prominence of steak. Places like Makati and BGC are excelling in the establishments of steak restaurants. Those places that house the seared marvels, dried wonders and beckoning spirits, the celebratory confabs that require to be marked with a napkin wucked beneath our chins, a steak knife eagerly awaits that juicy slab of beef in a pool of its own juices on your plate.  I love steak. I have made many erros in my life but by far, eating beef has been my favorite misteak. Get it? From old classics that peddle in porterhouse to new-wave meateries where I can get my sirloin with a side of gnocchi or fresh salads or rich mashed potatoes, I have had the best in Manila. From time to time, something devious this way comes. A new player comes in to break the mold, the convention. A new steakhouse comes about to offer something accessible, something intimate. ABV is fairly new in the playing field. Mostly, it offers spirits and your usual bar treats, they are changing the perception. Steaks are often seen as a very intricate dish, intimidating to most degree, and costly in whichever way you look at it. ABV's Fete du boeuf humbly introduces itself as an interesting variety: far different from the steaks we have known. Steaks are often paired with red wine with salad on the side. As a general rule, steak is perfectly matched with a with a bold and high tannin red wine such as Petite Sirah or Cabernet Sauvignon or the bold taste of a Syrah. However, ABV's Fete du boeuf is introducing to a newfound experience of savoring the flavor with a Moscow Mule or Whiskey Sour or any cocktail drink. You may have heard the old adage, “red wine with red meat, white wine with white meat”, but who says you have to stick to the rules? Pairing steak with a cocktail drink is both inventive and uncanny. However uncanny it can be, it is completely a new and sublime eating experience. Steak is heavy and rich, and cocktail is a great and mildly palate cleansing. A citrusy but not overly boozy cocktail drink opens steak dining experience to new heights. The first bite of Fete du boeuf, I knew right away that I was offered a brand new sensory pleasure: it was a celebration in my mouth and in my mind. It was almost like a narrative that I couldn't search the perfect phrase for it.Another surprise with ABV's Fete du boeuf is the pomme frites. This was almost like fish and chips but prepared to a whole new level. The pairing might seem odd, a deviation of some sort. Usually, you see a slab of beef paired with mashed potatoes or pommes dauphine. This time, the simplistic approach to an already established pairing is almost iconoclastic. Nonetheless, divine and glorious. The rendering is simple and straightforward. It didn't need a grand gesture. The flavor and taste did a fantatsic job.ABV's Fete du boeuf was a statement that needed to be said humbly yet boldly. It was a gastronomical think piece worthy of being read over and over again. It is a wonderful story that could pacify a poet's soul in pain. It is the formal feeling after a great storm. It is all that. I wanted to end that delicious with a period but all I could think of is more. Eaten with any of ABV's cocktail drink, then it's a whole new world of gastronomic experience. Every single bite was an ovation on its own. I can imagine myself being back here only to experience this marvel. ABV's Fete du boeuf fit into that category of dishes where food, its ingredients when combined together, ignite a pleasure far beyond the capacity of either of its parts alone. The marriage of tastes and falvors of Fete du boeuf, cocktail drinks, and pomme frites have come together into the sort of exquisite yet so simple transcendental accord that will probably explain why the world we love is not at all lost, and in some ways, still beautiful.

Awesome experience! The speakeasy vibe amplifies the outstanding craft cocktails. We also really enjoyed the food, everything we tried was great. Don't leave without trying the tater bombs!

One of my go to places to unwind with a good drink and some grub after a long day at work. Whiskey sour is awesome especially when paired with either their bacon cheeseburger or steak and fries. Great ambience, speakeasy place where you won't feel out of place coming in a suit or shorts and tees in the weekend.

Wonderful cocktails. The setting isn't too crazy, it really is just here to showcase some great drinks. Wide range of liquors are available, and the bartenders are more knowledgeable here than anywhere else. Maybe I'll go to one of there lessons one day.

Perfect place for private and intimate night outs. Drinks are a bit pricey but they use hi quality spirits that makes it worth every penny! This is my go to place now and then.

Discovered this place when a friend visited us. I’m all about speakeasy and secret bars, so I was especially happy to have found this place. It’s chic, cozy and surprisingly bigger than I thought it would be. You can order food from Lazy Bastard and have it inside ABV, so it’s also very convenient for hungry customers.Their selection of ales and liquors is just impressive. Brands I didn’t even know existed were being sold here. Of course this only means the price tag is essentially expected to be on the higher side because of the rarity of their products. The ambiance of he place is nice. The space is just enough and the volume of music is just right for conversations. The bar is attractive, and the seats are very comfortable. Illumination wise, theirs is more of mood lights. I had the Hitachino Nest White Ale at PHP 420 ++ for a 330 mL bottle. Eng mehel phoewz. Buti masarap siya! 😹✌🏼 The Belgian White Beer is manufactured from wheat malt by the used-to-be Sake makers. They put coriander, orange peel and nutmeg for a bolder flavor, and it really gave the beer body. Tanginess from the citrus peel is really pronounced, I really enjoyed this beer. But again, ansakit lang sa bulsa. In general, I enjoyed hanging out in this very chill place! I’ll definitely come back, just not too soon.

I'm at that age where I personally couldn't stay up all night and party. I don't have the energy to dance and drink till the break of dawn. I appreciate staying home at night during my free days off and enjoy the comfort of my bed. But I certainly enjoy one thing during weekends, waking up late a little late in the morning to have brunch instead of breakfast.
