There exists a hint of chinese 5-spice or anise (this is actually the taste that threw my companions off). Although I hardly noticed it - so when I did, I enjoyed it a whole lot. The place is really a non-airconditioned restaurant along P. Tuazon. We attempted the pares, the kamto, and the kangkong. The pares was alright, although i would state that Jona's and Sing-le in Pampanga are usually much better tasting. The kamto has been delicious specifically the broth.
